How to Save Money at Idaho Falls Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Parnell is exceptional. She is so knowledgeable and dedicated. She cares about all animals, regardless of whether they have homes yet. It is a privilege to have her as a vet! Update: This team continues to impress me with their compassion, efficiency, and expertise. I have seen so many vets while working with rescue cats, but no one compares. I have regretted it every single time I have taken my rescues to vets closer to where I live. For me, Dr. Parnell is well worth the 30 mile drive I make. I have so much confidence in her decisions, and I truly trust her the most when making really tough calls for vulnerable animals. What really sets her apart from the other vets I've seen is how CLEAN her sutures are. The cats recover SO much faster from her surgeries than others. Her work is so precise and minimally scarring, you wouldn't even know they've had surgery. I LOVE how small of an incision she makes for the spays she performs. I don't know how she does it, but it's WAY smaller and WAY cleaner than other vets. It's super impressive and makes for much less cranky kitties while recovering. Not only is the vet amazing, but the VET TECHS/ASSISTANTS. WOW!!! These are the people you want taking care of your precious pets. I can't imagine how difficult their jobs must be, but they are spectacular at what they do. I especially appreciate how thoughtful everyone is when I have questions. They always explain things so helpfully, and I have learned so much from them. Also...just cool people??? Like....I want to be best friends with all of you?!?!? So kind and fun and just lovely energy!! These people are heroes. For many let owners, our animals are our family. Idaho Falls Veterinary Hospital knows this, and they take spectacular care of my babies. Thank you, for all that you do. 💜💜💜 I'm attaching a bunch of photos of some of the many lives they have saved.

Hey folks this is Mr.Smudge and I was just back visiting my doctor because I caught a little cold when I snuck outside and didn’t come back till 3:30 am( hey I am a teenage kitten aka 8 months old). Anyways they remembered me there because they had raised me until I found my new mom and dad. They took very good care of us when we went in and ‘mom’ was impressed on how clean and clean smelling the facility was. Not to mention how friendly everyone there was. Mom says we are definitely going to go back there and she recommends these guys. So I guess I will get to see my old friends again. In fact mom wants to take my ‘sister’ dog there too.

Dr. Parnell and her staff are second to none. They worked with my 13 year old dog through chemo and to his last day. They even respond over the weekend for emergent issues so we wouldn’t need to go to the emergency vet. She truely cares about her furr patients and their families.

Dr Parnell and her staff are absolutely incredible. My 10 month old kitty swallowed a balloon string and was deathly sick. They were able to remove it surgically and literally saved her life. She was on the brink of not making it. They went out of their way to make sure she was taken care of and comfortable. I will never stop recommending them. Best vet in Idaho falls by far. Love everyone there!

Dr Parnell is the BEST, from vaccinations to surgeries. Her prices are more than fair, and her patient care is the best I have ever encountered in veterinary medicine.
