How to Save Money at Emergency Vet Hospital of Coeur d'Alene
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Kind, compassionate, professional folks here, I highly recommend. We abruptly lost our big Yello dog, Yogurt exactly one month ago-- He started acting strange early in the morning, so I brought him in. The team did an ultrasound and the kind doc delivered the news that we only had moments left with our big Dude. Making that Monday even more rotten was the fact that my Wife was out of town AND it was her birthday. Yogurt was her big baby dog, and he ADORED his Mother. The team here suggested we video call with her while they helped him pass painlessly. It was definitely the best solution to a rough situation. Thank you Emergency Vet team, we appreciate you and the hard work that you do. --Yogurt's family

We had to take in our 6 month old puppy after a surgery gone wrong from another place. He was in dire straits. There was nothing that could’ve really been done at that point to save him, but they gave it their all. The doctor and staff went above and beyond with the care he received and they were very transparent with us about the situation and his condition. As heart breaking and extremely traumatic as the situation was that brought us there, they gave us comfort in knowing he was very well cared for there. The grace and compassion they showed to us and to Finn, was immeasurable, and for that we are extremely grateful and thankful to this staff and clinic. They sent us a very nice, well thought out sympathy card expressing their condolences and it was so touching.i love that so much! Most don’t think to do that, but it was heart warming. I just want to say to Dr. Hunt, nurses and techs, that you saw my pup in the worst possible state, so I’m sharing him in his best. He is pictured here with his older brother. Thank you so much everyone! I highly recommend this place!

Every interaction with this facility was top notch, from the receptionist to the technician to the doctor. Highly recommend this business for medical care for your pet family. I've worked many years in the veterinary field both small & large animal and I am familiar with how a vet practice operates and this practice by far deserves 5 stars!! I took my dog in on a Sunday night and was amazed at the professionalism and care my pup received. My pup has recovered and back to his normal self. Thank you Dr. DeMarco !

I don't leave reviews for things usually but I had the most outstanding and compassionate care yesterday at this ER Vet hospital. My Dam was in labor and couldn't live birth her pups. They were extremely thorough and worked with us to make sure she was stable enough to go to her primary vet for care when they opened as it would be the most affordable option. She couldn't have received any better care! Thank you Dr. Demarco and staff!

We had to visit twice in the last six months and I found everyone to be extremely professional and kind. This time our sweet girl didn't come home with us, and they were so compassionate walking us through options and making the hard recommendation. They even made a little card with her paw prints for us.
