How to Save Money at Ashworth Road Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Ashworth road animal hospital always treated Oscar my little munchkin cat with the utmost of care and personability. Unfortunately I had to move away from the area so he can no longer be seen there. I am biased but Nikki is the best nurse.

I find Dr. Merck to be a very competent veterinarian. She has a very gentle, confident manner with my pets. She takes the necessary time to answer all my questions. She'll also make an effort to send articles with me so I can better understand my concerns about my pets health. The office staff compliment the practice very well. They make scheduling appts. easy and notify you if a cancellation creates an opportunity to have my pet seen earlier. The vet techs seem knowledgeable and compassionate and make a real contribution to the efficient running of the office. Overall, I would recommend this practice to anyone interested in a higher level of veterinary care.

I had to take my Chorkie to Ashworth last week, this place is very very prompt. and the staff are very very friendly. and even though we are in lock down, they will come to your car and get your information, and take your pet inside while you wait in your car. the exam did not take very long. and the Dr Merke called and explained everything she found and did. they are very very thorough. I would not give it a second thought about going back. they have earned my full trust..... excellent job !!!!

TLDR: Highly recommend anyone looking for veterinarian care for felines to Ashworth Animal Hospital. I haven't used them for canine care. Have been using Ashworth for a couple years now and recently brought home a new cat. New kitty had no medical history so took her in for check up, shots, and chipping. We only had River for a few days at this point and didn't notice anything unusual in her behavior. Dr. Niemand was in the room and pretty quickly asked if we had noticed any excess ear itching which we had but didn't think it was over the top. She was about to notice the new kitty's body language that fast and found she had ear mites. Got her treated and we were in and out within an hour. Took our older cat Simon in a couple weeks later as a precaution due to unusual behavior. They kept him for a few hours to collect a "sample" which tested fine. Dr. Niemand gave me a call personally to let me know everything tested good but, then answered all my questions on different products and gave great tips for "life enrichment" for the cats. All the staff were friendly and generally wonderful. My only wish is that my PCP was as personable, informative, and caring with humans as the staff and Doctors at Ashworth Animal Hospital are with animals.

I came here after reading the reviews and desperately trying to find better care for our epileptic dog. All the reviews are true! Between seizures, torn ACL’s, weight struggles and just my own worries- they have been so wonderful, supportive and helpful! Phoebe (my dog) is actually excited about going to the vet now! Dr. Fromm and Dr.Weibmen have done so much to help our girl get back on track! They’ve sent helpful links and have had such detailed communication! Which has been the best breath of fresh air since our previous experiences. Even everyone at the front is super helpful, compassionate and caring. It’s really an environment where your dog is treated like family ❤️
