How to Save Money at The Hometown Veterinarian
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Had our first visit yesterday for a nail clip and wellness check for our two bunnies. It was a completely positive experience. The clinic is easy to access and has ample parking. The entire clinic is clean and well maintained. The lobby is large and well designed so that your pets are not too close to other's pets. Exam rooms include heated exam tables which is a wonderful feature that I haven't found at any other vet office. Dr. Jacobson took a thorough history and did a comprehensive physical exam. I got a surprise this morning. The clinic called to ask how the bunnies are doing and if I had any questions or concerns to address with the Doctor. Hometown Vet was impressive in every aspect. Very highly recommended!

I will not be returning to this veterinarian clinic but I am raising the review from 2 stars to 4 stars. The owner called me and explained what was seen in my cat's ears. I am new in town. I wish I had asked family and friends where they took their cats. I chose them because their name sounded friendly. I took my cat in for her yearly check-up and to get her ears cleaned and her nails clipped as I have done for the past 7 years. The staff was friendly and seemed caring. They took my cat in the back to clean her ears, and get blood work done. When they brought her back her eyes were tearing. I thought it was because she was scared since she is a very skittish cat. They said there were bacteria in her ears causing the wax build-up and offered medication to clear it up. I opted to have them put the medicine in her ears and to come back the following week for the second dose. They called me everyday for a few days to check how she was doing. When I took her home she hid for 3 days, not coming out to eat, drink, or anything else. She was always happy to be done with the vet and would immediately return to her happy self when arriving home. When she finally came out her left eye was very swollen, tearing, and her 3 eyelids was covering most of her eye. She tried to eat but kept dropping her food, which was unusual for her. She would cough when she drank water. I gave her salmon when I realized that she was tearing up more after she ate. This is when I presumed that my cat had been injured at the vet, most likely during the ear cleaning. The owner explained to me that this indicate nerve irritation. After a week, before I went back for the second appointment, I saw that my cat was not able to use the litter box, she tried but nothing would come out. I was afraid for my cats life. They insisted that she had had a bad ear infection when I brought her in. She did not appear to be in pain when I brought her in, her ears just itched. I talked with the manager and she believed her vet and the assistant were gentle with her and that she had a bad ear infection when I 1st brought her in. I accepted letting them give her a steroid to reduce the swelling. I will not let them treat my cat again. They cleaned her ears with a solution rather than with just cotton which was how me and my previous vet had been cleaning her ears. Perhaps if the risks of this type of ear cleaning had been explained to me ahead of time I would not have been so shocked and disappointed about the outcome.

The staff are so friendly and caring. The receptionists are very welcoming and I’ve been able to get in for emergencies the same day. Dr. Jacobson is very caring and takes time to make sure your concerns are heard. Unfortunately, I’ve had to deal with a “pocket pet” passing and the staff was very empathic, and they made a clay keepsake for me not only with her paw prints, but also her tail print. The details they thought of made all the difference. I definitely trust them with the care of my pets, and highly recommend them for not just your cats and dogs, but your small pets as well.

Very clean and very professional. The staff really cares about your pet as if it were their own! Our Saluki girl, Eve, needed surgery for a broken humerus bone. Dr Jacobson was highly recommended by our Vet. He made her as good as new!

Dr. Kvidera does an awesome job with our large undisciplined country dogs. :) It's always an adventure taking the barking goofball lab or the scared-of-everything shepherd to the vet, but the whole office does a great job managing our much-loved 4-legged family members.
