How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat came in on a Friday with a blocked urinary tract - a common yet potentially fatal complication in cats. They immediately triaged him to the back and I had updates and a plan forward in a matter of minutes. While he was hospitalized, I was able to visit him in addition to twice daily updates. I also called multiple times outside of the regular updates and they were always more than happy to take my calls and give me updates. One of the nurses even sent a photo of him his first morning there and it was greatly appreciated. While the situation itself was horrifying and scary, I was grateful to have the professional and attentive team at BluePearl taking care of my baby Bao. I was never worried about his care knowing the team was there 24/7. Everyone was friendly and I can tell they took great care of him. If your pet needs emergent care, I can't recommend this place enough. Bao and I say thank you!!

We had an amazing experience with BluePearl when we unexpectedly had to say goodbye to our Wilma. When we got there she was in a really bad condition, we were a wreck, the waiting room was full and the wait time said 5-6 hours. We were immediately met with kindness and compassion from the staff. They checked us in and took our girl right back and got her on oxygen. They put us in a room while they ran tests for her and found out the worst. Dr. Jennifer Sans was very kind and patient as she laid out our options for us. There was no pressure to continue treatment for Wilma if we didn’t choose that. We didn’t want to keep her in pain and they gave us plenty of time to say goodbye. The company that sent her remains did a beautiful job. BluePearl also made prints of Wilma’s nose and paw which was a really sweet touch. The only improvement over the situation is I would suggest putting in some kind of background music. It was very easy to hear through the walls and I know I certainly wasn’t quiet while I grieving my girl. Overall, all of the staff was very kind and helpful, even when I called a different day to ask questions. I would highly recommend them in an emergency situation. 🐾

We have had to access Blue Pearl’s services three times. All three times we have had nothing but wonderful, kind and caring staff and professional care and support from the professionals for our pet. They explained thoroughly and precisely what was going on and shared with us in the care plan as well as gave us total control as to what we wanted the next steps to be. They did I not shame us if we did not proceed further because of cost and no matter what the treatment they were with all the way. If you have to utilize emergency pet services, Blue Pearl is, Hands Down, the place I would recommend to anyone!!!!!

My dog had both knees (TPLO) surgery done by Dr. Spah. They both went great! I loved how much he took the time to educate me and answer any questions I had. The staff KEPT IN TOUCH with me and as a nervous pet parent, it was really needed! The front desk was kind and professional. The communication here was wonderful with check ins and follow ups with any questions for recovery are timely. What a tough and important job they all have and I cannot express enough how great my experience has been here!

I never give 5 star reviews because no on is perfect, however... I can NOT say enough good things about this place. From the minute we walked in the door they were quick swooped out and got my little puppy and had her back being evaluated within minutes. They came in got all her information, told us what they had discovered. Then came back to keep us updated while they ran test.. They decided it would be best to keep her overnight, and I called 3 times in 12 hours to check on Kinnik, they were happy to update me and one time the Vet himself gave me the update after I had spoke to him a few hours earlier. I never felt like I was bothering them, and they were happy to keep us updated. When we went to pick her up they went over EVERYTHING and answered all my questions and concerns---If I ever need specialized or emergency care Blue Pearl is where we will be!!!
