How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Everyone there is so amazing and friendly. I have been with guys for like 6 years. I started coming to you guys when my beautiful Sophie girl was 6 months old. I haven’t had a single problem since I have been a client. I love how nice and welcoming everyone is. I’m always able to get all my questions answered. I would definitely recommend you guys to all my friends and family with pets. Keep up the good work.

The staff here is so kind and compassionate! They have cared for my senior dog, as well as my cats, for several years. My dog was recently diagnosed with cancer and Dr. Garlock was so kind to me at the appointment. She discussed our options clearly, while being mindful of my mindset at that point. Dr. Stickler provided care for my girl, and preformed the euthanasia when the time came. She was so sweet and compassionate. It helped us so much as we said our goodbyes. Dr. Marietta is our routine care provider and she was always a fantastic vet! Her kindness is exceptional and we have always been grateful! My son brings his pets here for care and he has only good things to say about his experiences! The techs and other support staff are always patient and compassionate and they are always willing to take the time to make sure we understand everything and all of our questions are answered before we leave.

Untrustworthy and unreliable. Would tell me one appointment day/time and it would actually be a different day/time. Never have proper staff, so when I show up 10 minutes early for my appointment, I still don't get checked in until almost 10 minutes after my appointment was supposed to start. I signed up for their wellness plan, which was a HUGE mistake. I was never informed nor was I ever provided any documentation that mentions a cancellation policy that requires me to pay for the entire year when cancelling after two visits. This doesn't feel legal, and in the very least is certainly not a company that I want to be doing business with and I would highly recommend anyone coming here to be very cautious. This is why electronically signing documentation at a register should be illegal - the business never actually allows the customer to see what they are signing; this feels like predatory practices to me. Banfield has lost my business indefinitely for all of my pets as well as my families. Furthermore, the representatives that they force you to call to cancel your plan are rude, constantly talk over you, and clearly don't give two *! about anyone they interact with. The representative I spoke with could barely speak english. This has been incredibly poor service all around.

My dog was really sick. I called and basically bombarded my way into an appointment. They said bring him right in. The first vet thought he had a hip issue. She checked him out thoroughly but he’s a dog and can’t talk. So she sent him home with anti inflammatory meds. That Friday he got really worse. I brought him back and got a different vet and she X-rayed him, did blood work, physical exam etc. We get to the end of the day and she calls and she tells me there is one more test- pancreas. It’s an extra fee. I’m like you have to. We have to find out what’s wrong. He was positive. She put him on lots of meds to try and help him. He had to go back 2 more times for I.V. To try and hydrate and flush the toxins causing him issues. After 2.5 weeks he popped out of it like he never had an issue. I’m so grateful to Dr Garlock for loving Bear and caring for him and being relentless to find the issue.
