How to Save Money at Parkside Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google

I would give you 0 stars if I could. What you put our family through tonight was not only cruel and heartless but inhumane as well. I honestly thought you were a good Vet but now I think it's all about the money to you. If you have so little regard for your patients you need to change professions. My daughter brought her beloved cat, who was just a little over a year old, to you 3 days ago. You diagnosed him with a bowel obstruction and performed surgery (emergency prices because it was Sunday). You didn't find an obstruction. He wasn't able to eat so you kept him 2 more days on IV fluids. She picked him up this morning. At 6 pm she texted me that she thought he was dying. I told her to call you. She was told it would be an emergency (so another emergency fee). She was told to bring him right over and to call when we got there. We did and were then told it would be 45 minutes to an hour! You said it was an emergency. There were no other Vets available and believe me we called. So we waited for you in our van, in the rain, while that poor cat cried pitifully. You called us back and said it would be a drop off and still we waited. By the time she finally opened the door to get him he had died in our van. He was so full of infection it was leaking out around his stitches. We paid over $1000 for a surgery he probably didn't even need. How you could have missed an infection that bad for 3 days is beyond me. And Dr. White we have the ability to pay so that shouldn't have been an issue. While you see our pets as dollar signs they are family to us. Shame on you!

Our sweet dog, Kinnick, was under the care of Parkside for nearly five years. Unfortunately, a change in jobs led to my husband and I relocating to Cedar Rapids. It’s officially time to establish care with another vet, and my heart feels so heavy. We are seriously so blessed to have had Dr. White and his incredible staff caring for Kinnick during our time there - in our opinion, there is nobody better. Thank you all so very much for loving Kinnick and providing such incredible care for him.

Parkside Animal Hospital helped save our puppy! Bluey was hours away from death due to contacting the parvo virus. We arrived at the hospital right at closing time. Dr. White was out on an emergency call but the staff stayed to help get all the information and tests needed for when Dr. White arrived to help us with our emergency. The staff was great. Very caring, professional and understanding as I was very emotional. Dr. White arrived and immediately got us the medicine we needed to help our puppy. After giving him his first shots we immediately saw an improvement. I truly believe we would have lost our puppy if we hadn’t gotten him to Parkside Animal Clinic. It’s been 3 1/2 months and he is happy and healthy. We are so grateful and so is his big brother Riker!

My husband and I are from out of town and our sweet girl needed euthanized late on a Saturday night. From the time I called to the time we left, we felt comfortable and cared for by everyone we interacted with. Thank you Parkside, for supporting us and taking care of our girl.

Absolutely the most unprofessional Vet clinic ive had the Displeasure of visiting .Last Friday went in to get my healthy 14 yr old Molly dog heartworm meds and ask about doing a blood test for kidney failure .(she has been on Rymyadol )and was just wanting to nake sure. Was told i needed and needed to make me a appointment .Not my usual Vet so I was aware that she would have to see a "vet "to be able to receive test and heartworm meds (she has been on heartworm preventive meds since old enough to be on them. ...So I showed up 15 min early ,set there 10 min some lady comes out to say "i think there there is confusion she hasnt been seen here so she needs to see a vet and we cant do it untill late this after noon .." ..NO CRAP!!! ...i drove 21 miles to get here then 21 miles home .I also had turned down over $200.worth of driving to make it here at 9am ...Not sure if this is small town politics or Incompantancy or both .But I DO NOT RECCOMMEND this place and Ill will NEVER AGAIN visit ..i should send them a bill for travel expense and the 200.00 what i missed out on .!!!
