How to Save Money at Frey Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I could not recommend them more. I have taken dogs I own as well and board and trains I have here. Frey has been there for me in many ways; from a new puppy, training, X-rays, to end of life. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, compassionate and listens not only to my concerns but if I need things to be done a certain way at the vets for training they are always ready to make it the most positive visit they can. They have been accommodating to my disabilities as well. When my service dog passed they went above and beyond. Giving him the best care they could, and then being as supportive and compassionate as possible afterwards. I’m thankful for every staff member here!

Dr Koopman is fantastic, and has been wonderful along with the techs with all of our fur babies. They are attentive, detailed, incredibly kind, and have always leaned to the side of caution in terms of testing and treatments (they caught several situations with our fur babies that would have been missed if they didn't look into something further). Simultaneously, Dr Koopman is very careful to be conscientious of the cost of testing and treatment and always has explained all options for things and their costs prior to moving forward. She always presents multiple options, so if your budget doesn't allow for a $300 test, you can still confidently care for your pet with a less expensive alternate option and know you are still providing for your fur baby. The only reason(s) for giving it 4 instead of 5 stars are: 1. organization in terms of timing could be a little bit better, as it usually takes a while to be able to leave after the vet or tech is done with the visit. 2. They are a more expensive clinic. Even simple visits will cost more at Frey than other clinics. ***BUT you get what you pay for with them. Even though it costs me more to take our pets to Frey than to other places I've gone, I know they're getting the best care and treatment and they aren't being used as sales pawns for the latest vet med marketing push.***

I've been a dog owner for the better part of 30 years.. seen many different vets.. and finally I found my forever vet! Dr. Ayers and staff at Frey are remarkable. He literally saved my dog's life on a Saturday morning and after hours when no other Vet in Cedar Rapids would answer the phone or were to busy to see my pup Wolf. He is thorough, intelligent, respectful, caring, kind and a true professional! I have nothing but the best to say about him and the Frey staff. And will never forget the help they gave to us on such a miserable day. They are truly the best vets in the world!

I just got my dog a couple of weeks ago, and it's clear the previous owner did not take as good of care of her as they should have. She has multiple types of worms, double ear infections, gingivitis, and was severely behind on all of her vaccines; all around a big ole mess. I called right at open and was able to get in only a couple of hours later in the morning. The care my pup received was amazing. The people working here are all incredibly patient, kind, and knowledgeable. At no point did it feel like we were just squeezed in between other appointments, and everything was explained thoroughly. I will be taking my dog here for as long as I am in the area and will do so with the knowledge that it's reasonably priced and staffed by amazing individuals. I highly highly recommend Frey's.
