How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I don’t think our household can say enough good things about Banfield! We have been seeing them for almost two years, and we never fail to leave feeling so thankful. Every provider, vet assistant, secretary, and everyone in between are so amazing. They truly make us feel like they value our pets, and always want the best for them. They genuinely make such a difference, and I hope everyone has the chance to experience how wonderful they are! Thank you so much for all you guys do!

Banfield and their staff were insanely nice and took our dog in right before they closed. Turned out that he had a fever And they were happy we brought him in. They were so gracious and treated our dog with such care and love throughout the whole process, Understanding of financial situations, And overall, you could just tell that they cared about the dog And wanted him to be healthy before anything. If you’re looking for a place that won’t charge you like crazy And have genuine care for your dog I would recommend them

I don't have a single negative thing to say about Banfield. They are so kind to my dog and treat him like an individual that they get to know and learn about. I went two weeks ago for a hot spot on his paw, and when I called again today they remembered his previous appointment. I have always felt welcome there, and they go out of their way to make my dog comfortable. I trust them to make good medical decisions, and they are always willing to talk about any issues my dog is having-- even if it is unrelated to the reason for his appointment.

I am very happy with Banfield Pet Hospital in Ankeny, Iowa. It saves me so much time not having to drive to Clive. In addition, one of the vets and other assistants that I've seen before are now at the new location. They treat my dog well, and my dog is never afraid to go there. I also have a new teacup puppy that also does very well with her appointments and vaccines. I love how much money I save with the Optimum Wellness Plans for both dogs. I love being able to pay for the plans monthly and that it is less expensive than paying for the services each time I visit Banfield. There are many advantages of having the Wellness Plans. My dog just recently had a dental cleaning and her semiannual comprehensive exam. She had an issue with the anesthesia before, and they took great care to prepare her for it so that it was less likely to occur. They treated her as if she was their dog. I am extremely happy with Banfield and will continue with them forever.

Went to this clinic for the first time because they had the soonest appointment for my dog and I am so glad I did! They made sure to take the time that was needed to make my dog feel comfortable even though we were the last appointment of the day. Dr. Abbott also went out of her way to answer all of my questions and explain everything to me. Definitely the best vet experience my dog, Penny, and I have had to date!
