How to Save Money at Wahiawa Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
By no means, do I want to leave a negative review this profession is hard enough and I am here just sharing my experience. I went to Wahiawa pet Hospital because it was the only animal hospital that was open at the time I needed help. My initial visit was great, the Veterinarian was very kind and she took very good care of my cat but my second visit wasn’t so well. I myself work in this field and I understand what is needed and not needed for my pet and I declined some of the treatments and medications that I deemed unnecessary. I asked for a cleaning solution for my cat to keep her injury clean. With my knowledge of what the cleaning solution is supposed to look like versus what they gave me was completely different, once I saw it I knew this place was trying to take my money (because of the cost of the solution). The solution was clear as water and it had no odor as to what it is supposed to smell like. When I had called the animal hospital to let them know they completely disregarded everything I had to say, the receptionist was extremely rude and didn’t even want to make anything right. I offered to submit a picture to show what they had given me and they completely disregarded everything I had to say. I chose to cancel the rest of my visits with them and transfer to another animal hospital for a second opinion. There I was given the proper treatment and cleaning solution for my pet. I will attach an image for comparison. EDIT: in addition to my review the pet hospital has contacted me about my review to try to solve the issue, the supervisor was very kind and understanding but no action was taken.

I travel a lot with my husband and we visited many veterinarians throughout the years. We both have to say that this is by far the best place to take your pets, they go beyond your expectations. We have only had great experiences in this location and the customer service is great 👍🏼.

The staff are incredible! I’ve brought multiple pets here all of which were very well taken care of. They take special care to always ask about my other animals when I come in as well as answer any questions I have. They always go in depth about why certain tests are recommended and are upfront about the costs

The staff was very nice and patient. They answered all the questions i had at the time. One of the ladies took my dog outside to relieve himself while i finished the paperwork.

Dr. Ortaleza is the best clinicians I've ever met. If I was on my deathbed I'd rather her treat me over a human medical doctor. Dr. Ortaleza's bedside skills are 10/10 and her ability to manage and treat minor to complex cases is superb. She presents her medical findings and opinions on treatment options in an appropriate manner by using understandable terminology, asking if you need clarification throughout the consult, and regularly requests information about your own situation to formulate a treatment regimen that aligns with your own routine and financial situation. I could not say enough good things about her, and virtually any other providers I've met at WPH (especially, Dr. Crabtree & Dr. Matavao). Not only are the DVMs fantastic but so are the techs, I love Maile, Alyssa, Kiera, Madison, & everyone else whom I may of forgotten their name (I'm so sorry!!). I haven't had one bad experience in the 9 years I've taken my dogs to WPH. I highly recommend WPH! We ❤️ you guys!!
