How to Save Money at VCA Kaneohe Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

VCA Kaneohe Animal Hospital sets a remarkable standard in both compassionate employee care and speedy service for pets. The workplace atmosphere is infused with genuine concern for staff well-being, fostering a positive environment. In emergencies and everyday pet needs, their swift response showcases an unwavering commitment to the health and happiness of our furry companions. I recently had to bring my pup BlueBerry in for a bee sting to the face that cause his mouth and eyes to swell up. Doctors and techs acted quickly as a k9 triage and Berry was 100% back to normal 3 hours later. I would highly recommended VCA Kaneohe for both exceptional employee relations and for top-notch pet care! 🐶

VCA is my go to Animal Hospital. I live in Kaneohe and the staff there are always more than accommodating and friendly. I currently have a cat (Freddy) pictured below. As much I adore him my story with VCA goes almost 24 years back, when I had my Dog (Panic). While fishing in Kaaawa with Panic she managed to swallow a fishing hook and line that someone had carelessly left lying on the beach. It was almost midnight and I rushed to VCA which was closed. I called the number on the door and I was able to speak with a Dr. who from just waking drove to the hospital and performed emergency surgery on my beloved dog Panic. Words can’t express how grateful I was and always will be. Although Panic is no longer with us, I thank the staff and the Dr. for giving Panic many more years with me. Panic changed my life in ways I can’t describe. Thank you VCA from the bottom of my heart❤️. Aloha, Kawika D

This is the best vet clinic on the island! We make the drive to the Windward side to get specialized care. Our dog, Nalu is an 11 year old mixed pit bull adopted from the Humane Society. At 60 lbs he looks frightening, but he is the one always scared. The staff at VCA Kaneohe always greet him as soon as we walk through the door. He is given affection and treated like our special baby. We appreciate the knowledge and skills of the vets to keep our boy healthy! The clinic also recently remodeled and the facilities are beautiful!

I highly recommend pet care services at VCA-Kaneohe, because of my experiences there over the past 2 years have been positive. Most recently, my 12-year old Australian Cobberdog, Teddy Bear developed a left lateral hind paw toe cancer. Fine needle aspirate indicated cancer, type not able to be specified. Dr. Koperna performed a toe amputation on Thu 9/8/22. Dr. Koperna called me when the procedure was completed and explained discharge instructions in detail and answered my questions. The Vet Techs and office staff at VCA-Kaneohe were very professional and caring of Teddy. He had his first post-op follow-up appt and his amputation site is healing well. Teddy remains very comfortable with all VCA-Kaneohe staff.

A little pricey but isn't everything in Hawaii! Super friendly staff, super clean facility and always able to get a quick appointment. They cleaned my fur babies teeth and took really hood care of him. Was able to get a quick health certificate with short notice. Lots of great pet products for purchase as well. One stop shopping for your beloved pet 🐕
