How to Save Money at Feather & Fur Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
They took great care of my kitty and was able to fit me in same-day with their urgent care drop-offs. I like this system because you do not have to wait in the lobby with your pet all day. I think some owners may be wary about this but if you are open to leaving your pet there all day and understanding that they are very busy then it is no problem. I saw some bad reviews regarding money, but there were ample opportunities to ask about cost and the doctor went over what needed to be done for diagnostics as well. There was never a time I felt blindsided by cost. I was actually pleasantly surprised when they did not charge me for the radiology consult and did not charge for dexdomitor or the anti sedan my cat needed (she is spicy). At an urgent care it’s pretty common to be paying $1,000+ especially if you want diagnostics and treatments done. It’s similar to human urgent care, it is going to be more expensive. I actually paid a little under $1,000 and was pleasantly surprised. Overall, I really enjoyed this animal hospital and would recommended it to anyone whose animal needs immediate care.

It’s such a huge sigh of relief to be able to find, depend on, get answers to and treatment for an exotic pet that needs medical attention. We’ve been here before with another Tiger Salamander but today, our other beloved Tiger Salamander was taken care of and treated by Dr.Ayling. Couldn’t have asked for anyone better. Because of Covid it was a telephone conversation but the caring voice on the phone was real and I felt like I was seeing the person face to face. We got the answers we needed and the solution to getting HER (a bonus surprise - “HE” ended up being a SHE!! ) better. Everything was explained to us so clearly with such warmth that anxiety levels plummeted immediately. The phone conversation wasn’t rushed either. Dr. Ayling took his time covering everything including that bonus surprise. Oops! LOL. 😂 MAHALO Dr. Ayling and Staff for Caring so so much. Continue to do your Best!! - Kurihara Ohana Update: 03/05/2023 Since then, our beloved boys passed away. Mahalo for caring for our precious exotics.

Took a bird that was in critical condition here. The staff was professional and kind. Dr. Pratt was knowledgeable and caring. The bird didn’t make it, unfortunately, but the way they immediately acted when they did the initial check up and how quickly they got him into an incubator with heat and oxygen is the reason for my rate. I would choose to use them again if I needed to! Thank you Feather & Fur for the level of attention and care you provided that poor bird.

Our three year old family dog was rushed to the hospital recently. We were faced with only TWO choices - pay a $6,000 deposit to proceed with emergency surgery OR euthenize. Surely, these cannot be the only two choices?! Pay up OR kill your dog! Inserting a little more tact would be helpful. What if people don't have that kind of money? Are they forced to kill their pet because of it? So we paid up (maxing out my credit card), and agreed to perform emergency surgery to see if we could stop the internal bleeding. Turns out, his spleen had ruptured. They were able to stop the bleeding and we had a glimmer of hope. Not more than 10 minutes later, we learned that he began to crash coming out of surgery. After unsuccessful CPR attempts, our dog passed away. And this $6,000 bill ($4,909 after adjustment) from the vet doesn’t help ESPECIALLY when my dog is deceased. . There’s no ‘payment plan’ option - just a suggestion to apply for Care Credit. Only after I posted to my social media, did people GUESS that it was Feather & Fur - they guessed because of their own unfavorable experiences. . Please think twice before sending your pet there in case of an emergency. Or be prepared to pay thousands. (We're definitely getting pet insurance for the next pet)

Gave me no answers to the issue I came in for i paid almost $300 for a basic ear evaluation. The vet gave my puppy a vaccine without my approval and did whatever he could to raise the bill as much as he could. DO NOT GO HERE!!! On the other hand Oahu spca gave me way better service and prices and actually cared about my pets well being and communicated everything way better! This place is only focused on stealing your money!
