How to Save Money at Muse Holistic Veterinary Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr Barrett is the best vet we have ever worked with. She has helped us with our dog, Peanut through some long term medical ailments and since under her care, he is thriving. We cannot recommend her enough, she is truly one of the best in the business. We drove from across the island to see her. We are moving off island and are devastated to lose her as our vet, and she has still offered to support us until we are established in our move. Thank you again for everything, you are the very best!

As a physical therapist on Oahu for over a decade and practicing medicine for over 18 years, it is often difficult to find other clinicians who share the same practice methodologies as I do. Dr. Barrett is the pinnacle amongst other veterinary clinicians with her expert care. You can expect nothing but the best at her clinic. She takes pride in her work, encompasses clarity, empathy and most importantly... utilizes state of the art technology on all her patients. If you're looking for a thorough evaluation and treatment for your cherished pets, she is ten steps ahead of any medical practitioner I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with. It was truly serendipitous how I met Dr. Barrett and I will be forever grateful that our paths have crossed. Go beyond mainstream medical care for your pets as she offers a wide spectrum of unique specialty services you're unlikely to find anywhere else. In my PT clinic, I use the same modalities as she does: manual therapy, exercise, E-stim, laser, and even PRP injections. As an Integrative Veterinarian, she strives to offer her clients options beyond the standard conventional treatments. Don't hesitate to reach out to her, you will be glad you did!!!

We found Dr. Barrett after our shih tzu, Gizmo was diagnosed with IVDD. He had muscle spasms and had trouble walking and in pain. We decided to treat our Gizzy boy non-surgically with acupuncture, chiropractic and laser therapy. She offers home-visits which is a game changer and offers a better experience for animals in their comfort place. At the end our first session with acupuncture and laser, Gizmo just melted in her hands and kept wanting her presence near him. This connection was amazing to see and we decided to continue with treat every week and now every month! He was able to get off his pain meds just after 1 appointment with Dr. Barrett and supplementing with her CBD recommendation. He made significant improvements in just 3 weeks and no longer has spasms or cries in pain anymore. She also inspired us to begin feeding our dogs whole foods instead of kibble. Now we cook for our pups daily and has become one of my favorite part of the day. :) We are extremely grateful to have someone so passionate in improving animal’s health and well-being. He is now in better shape than he’s ever been in at 9 years old! I highly recommend anyone to Dr. Barrett with no hesitation!!!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Honolulu Pet Clinic for my fur baby, Bibi, and I must say that the experience was 5 stars. Dr. Barrett and the entire team provided a level of care that was truly outstanding. From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted warmly and made to feel like part of the family. The clinic itself was impeccably clean and well-maintained, creating a comfortable atmosphere for both pets and pet parents. As a fur mom, I had some urgent concerns about Bibi's urinary health, but Dr. Barrett's calm and reassuring demeanor immediately put my fears to rest. She performed a through test and examination as well as communicated his at home treatment in a manner that was clear. Dr. Barrett and her team provided excellent and timely treatment for Bibi without breaking the bank. I truly appreciate their commitment to making veterinary care accessible to all. Overall, I cannot recommend Dr. Barrett and The Honolulu Pet Clinic enough for anyone seeking top-notch care for their beloved pets. Dr. Barrett's compassion, professionalism, and dedication to providing exceptional care is truly commendable. Our experience at the clinic reassured me that Bibi is in the best hands possible. Thank you, Dr. Barrett, for your outstanding service.

Dr Barrett’s new holistic practice offers exactly the kind of environment and care I have been wanting for my senior dog. Dr Barrett’s office has a calm, serene feeling that puts my dog at ease, in contrast to the harsh fluorescent lighting and stale sanitary space of most examine rooms. We also received a sound healing from Dr Barrett, and it was special experience: both relaxing and connective for us to share in my dog’s sunset years. As someone who regularly uses different healing modalities for myself, I am so thankful that Dr Barrett offers these alternative treatments that complement traditional veterinary care and the treatments I would choose to give myself. Aside from her new office space, I cannot recommend Dr. Barrett enough in terms of her knowledge and experience as a veterinarian. She has been our go-to vet for the last five years, and has repeatedly and accurately diagnosed and properly treated my pet, most recently using a blend of eastern and western modalities that have helped my dog make a miraculous recovery from a scary diagnosis. Additionally, Dr Barrett has a compassionate, gentle “bedside manner” that puts both myself and my dog at ease. I am continually impressed with her breadth knowledge and skills, and trust her recommendations! Overall, Dr Barrett and her variety of treatment options allow me to provide my pet with the best care aligned with my values. I am very excited to continue working with Dr Barrett at her new practice!
