How to Save Money at Houston Veterinary Clinic PC
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Houston vet clinic is the absolute best place for all of your pet’s needs. I rescued my dog Coco as heartworm positive and they were the only office in a 30 mile radius that prioritized Coco’s condition. They will always find a way to get you an appointment and the entire office is so caring and compassionate. I cannot thank Dr. Hilliard enough for all he has done for Coco and I, whether it’s getting medications for her on super short notice or working with my budget (I never knew how expensive heartworm treatment was)! I am so happy my baby is now healthy and that I found such an amazing office that truly treats you and your pet like family!

I could tell something was wrong with my 4 year old cat when he started growling when using the litter box and trying to use the bathroom on rugs and in the bathtub. I was so worried. The vet where I had taken my other cat for a scratched eye for urgent care said they couldn’t see him until 8pm and I truly believe he would’ve been in trouble had I have waited that long. I called around and Houston Vet Clinic was able to see him right away. Everyone we interacted with was so kind and it truly felt like they prioritized us and our kitty’s health despite not having an appointment. Dr. Hilliard was able to quickly diagnose and treat the concern, as well as offer guidance and direction on best next steps. He made himself available via phone and email for any questions and even followed up the next day to assure kitty was doing okay. A few days after our initial visit, it seemed kitty was maybe regressing and I was worried and the office/Dr. Hilliard were willing and able to see kitty again just to recheck and make sure he was okay. Dr. Hilliard was able to again provide direction of best next steps to get kitty through this rough patch. I look forward to making this clinic my permanent clinic for my cats for any future routine care. From Amber and Robert Stewart and little black kitty Tosin, we thank you all so much for your caring, compassionate approach to your work. We are forever grateful!

I have been coming to this vet for a little over a year now. They are absolutely amazing and so kind! Whenever any of my cats are sick they are more than happy to squeeze me in on such short notice. Dr. Hilliard is the sweetest person and he truly cares about how his patients are doing. He has emailed me multiple times to check in on my cat and I wouldn’t recommend any other vet! They are amazing here and actually care!

Dr. Hillard and his staff took care of my sweet Bear during her battle with cancer until she lost the fight and needed to be put down. They were always extremely compassionate and empathetic. After bear passed away they sent me a hand written note from all of them and prints of her paw and nose. It meant more to me than I can even explain. ❤️

Doctor Hilliard did an amazing job with my precious Little girl. I took her in on an emergency and he didn't skip a beat. My Little One went in with out much color in her face and body and this morning she looked like a brand new Kitty 💜💜. They care a lot about their furry client's and their owners as well. He said to me this morning spend as much time as I want with Little One and that time gave me peace of mind Thank you so much Doctor Hilliard you are awesome
