How to Save Money at Valdosta Veterinary Associates

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The absolute best!! My dog had pyrometra (deadly infection in her uterus). I first took her to Jacksonville who quoted me $5,000 for the surgery to save her life. My husband and I did not have the funds to pay for it. We were having to decide whether or not to put down our dog. We were heartbroken and in tears, but didn't want to give up on our Luna. The clock was ticking and we spent the night calling approximately 20 other vets around who all told us the same amount. My husband called Valdosta Veterinary Associates who said to bring her in that night or the following morning and they’d do it for less than $2,000. We made the appointment and drove 2 hours to the vet. The staff is amazing, kept us informed, preformed the surgery quickly and saved our dogs life. I could not be anymore pleased that I am and will make that drive to visit them in the future. Thank you all so very much! We appreciate you!!

I cannot begin to thank the staff and Dr. Courson for everything they did for us and Binx. Dr. Courson did all that she could possibly do to save Binx. I called to check on her multiple times while she was hospitalized and the administrative staff were always so nice. When Binx passed while in their care, they gave us a chance to say goodbye and offered cremation services. After picking Binx up, there was a card signed by all the staff and her paw prints. I will cherish the card and her paw prints forever. I highly recommend this facility to anyone with pets!

Very professional, compassionate with our sweet dachshund. We had an unfortunate accident that happen after normal business hours and were seen immediately after arrival. We were explained the process and all test results the same day. The doctor held our pup for overnight evaluation and treated him. Over all excellent experience here. All staff were pleasant and very professional.

Dr. Courson the on call veterinarian and the staff took care of both of our girls Lea and Sirah after an unexpected fight happened between them while my husband and I were out of town. Lea got the worst of it and Dr. Courson was very thorough and the staff was so sweet to her. She ended up having to be sedated and get a cast and the girls all signed it. I know they eased their anxieties while we were away and took great care of them. The only thing we had concerns about was the emergency fee up front that was $500 but they did apply it towards the bill. If we didn’t have the extra money to have paid it up front, I’m not sure what we would have done!

I have not even seen the vet at this location. They are open 24-7. I have a puppy that has an allergy . They wanting $500.00 before she is even seen. That does not include her visit blood work etc . I refuse to give $500 because you are open on Sunday . It was not an emergency. I do not have financial restraints. We are totally blessed. I am not paying for something because you think you can charge $500.00 on the weekend . My puppy did receive medical attention at her vet on Monday for alot less than $500.00 and is doing much better . Thank you.
