How to Save Money at Good Dog Veterinary Care Smyrna

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have only had wonderful experiences with Good Dog. 🐕 We have three 50+ pound dogs (two of which are 11 years+), all with differing treatment needs, and the Smyrna facility is kind, adaptive, and efficient. So far regular vet visits, sedation for our especially reactive dog, nail trims, tooth extractions, and mass removals/biopsy have all gone very smoothly. Their well-designed process takes a lot of stress out of the visit, and it is amazing how spacious the facility feels once you walk in. We are forever fans of Dr. Weyl and the rest of the team.

We decided to switch vet offices after feeling though we were getting inconsistent care and price gouged. I called around for some prices and felt as Good Dog is where we wanted to be. I was in love after the first visit! My husband got to come after I decided I wanted to continue and he also agreed with me. What we love: 1. Our dog has the same assigned vet that is in charge of her care. It keeps it consistent and I have someone truly caring and specializing in my dog. We were not rushed and amazing care was given! 2. The building feels and smells clean. 3. The prices! We are saving so much with having switched and I like that if my dog keeps coming back for the same issue they reduce the visit fee. My dog is always coming back for the same visit so it is nice knowing the price reduces. Also after going to our last vet for so long I was assigned better prescriptions here and a plan of action for my dog!! That already means we are coming back less which is nice in this economy! They truly care about the pet. When I had a problem with billing they quickly understood my concern and rectified it!

First time going to Good Dog and it was an amazing experience. The vets and the tech were caring and friendly and took their time to make sure Jake and Emma were comfortable and in good health. Their wellness plans are a great deal which includes dental which many owners avoid as an extra cost. The office is beautiful and the people that work there even better. So glad I chose them.

EXCEPTIONAL experience from the moment I made the appointment via their website - to the staff's follow-up, greeting at the entry to the time I walked out the door. I never felt rushed ( rude staff and feeling rushed was the reason for my vet move ) I COULD'NT BE HAPPIER with the move to Good Dog. And another reason for the move was Dr. Weyl. She has been my boys doctor for at least 13 years, she recently moved here to Good Dog and I can see why! She is amazing and this place is fantastic! Kiara our Vet Tech was amazing as well! Can't say enough great things about Good Dog!

My 1st experience with Good Dog was definitely 5 STARS! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by name and immediately brought to the examination room. The exam, diagnosis, explanation and direction for my dogs healing were all delivered professionally, timely and friendly. Prices are reasonable. I highly recommend this vet for your pet's care👍👍
