How to Save Money at Good Dog Veterinary Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

A HUGE Thank You to Good Dog in Smyrna! Since walking through their doors several weeks ago for the first time, it has been a pleasure and a great experience! Dr. Rice and all of the staff have been extremely helpful in getting my older German Shepherd the care he needs and answering all my questions and concerns! I have also been able to save time and money by having my dogs prescriptions filled at their facility! I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for great dog care! Thanks again Good Dog!

I have been with GDVC at the west Cobb location for 2 years now as a veterinary assistant… and what a blessing it has been in so many ways! I am lucky to practice this level of veterinary medicine every single day, and to use my skills and knowledge to serve our clients and patients. I just love building relationships with these families and their fur kiddos that come to see us. We are thrilled to be opening a second practice in Smyrna! I cannot wait to hear the stories and experiences that take place!!

I’m beyond thrilled I found Good Dog Veterinary Care for my fur baby. I drove past the Smyrna location and looked them up. The information on their website was impressive so I scheduled an appointment to check them out. I knew from the intake form there was something special about them (they asked what my fur baby and I needed during our visit to make it as least stressful as possible). I didn’t know what to put but let me tell you that they delivered. The staff is kind caring and sensitive to the needs of patients (and their parents) I’m so glad it was them who discovered that my dog had another mast cell tumor. The greatest part was that they found, diagnosed, and treated in house quickly. No special (and costly) trips to Blue Pearl needed this time. If you decided to check them out you won’t be disappointed. Also be sure to check out their wellness plans.

Words can't express how grateful we are for Good Dog Veterinary Care! Being new to the area and not established with a local vet clinic yet, we were scrambling to find a place that could see our 6 y/o lab, Kylo, when he suddenly stopped eating & drinking. From the first moment we called, we were shown such compassion & professionalism by the team at GDVC and we immediately came in for an emergency visit. Dr. Rice and Savanna got right to work with testing & x-rays on our sweet boy and quickly discovered an object blocking his intestines. Emergency surgery, an overnight hospital stay, and a full day of monitoring followed, and Dr. Rice went above & beyond to provide us with updates and made sure that he was taken care of in every possible way. Fast forward two weeks and Kylo has had his stitches removed and is fully recovered with zero issues or lingering symptoms! He's back to his happy, playful self and is all set up with his Wellness Plan to take care of his health needs for the next year. Kylo adores the entire GDVC team as they make every interaction with him a positive one, full of love & praise & plenty of scratches! I'll never take our pups anywhere else :)
