How to Save Money at Savannah Veterinary Emergency Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
**Record all conversations you have if you must go here** After our dog vomited blood, we rushed him to the nearest vet on a Saturday night, which was the only option within a 50-minute drive. Unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. We had to wait outside for ten minutes before being allowed in, and then spent about an hour waiting with no rhyme or reason after completing paperwork before being attended to. Considering the nature of situations others could be going through here, we didn’t complain. Surprisingly, the initial interaction did not involve an examination or a simple greeting from the doctor. Instead, we were automatically presented with a bill of $675, including $200 for X-rays, $300 for bloodwork, and a $175 admission fee. This caught us off guard since no one had even inspected our dog after we wrote down his symptoms. After a moment of consideration, we decided to proceed with only half of the recommended procedures, opting for X-rays only. After all, we’d at least like a handshake and acknowledgement as concerned owners before we empty our pockets. Eventually after the X-rays we had a meeting with the doctor who informed us that he didn't find anything critically abnormal. However, there was no thorough examination or apparent interest in our dog's condition (in the history of all our vet encounters, none have ever been conducted without our presence to help gain better insight of their situation). While we understand that vet clinics deal with numerous cases, it should be a standard practice to conduct a comprehensive examination with an informed background assessment. Regrettably, we were not assured that the services provided were thorough and complete. Due to our concern for our dog's health but apparent slow recovery, we chose to forgo the blood work and approved a recommendation for a $25 shot to help with his vomiting. But during the checkout process, we noticed a significant discrepancy in the final price, even with some hidden fees attached— remember, $125+$200+$25. Requesting a price breakdown was met with refusal until we paid, leaving us feeling worn down and anxious. After the $654 was paid we were informed that there were some system adjustments, and the visible prices didn't match the actual charges. Sure, paperwork was provided for the estimate but the plan changed, thus it was reasonable to request paperwork that reflected the new balance. This situation left us frustrated as we were instructed to call on Monday for clarification, but our attempts to reach the provided names for the matter yielded no progress. Finally, after a series of polite phone exchanges, we were informed that a vet tech had made a mistake in pricing, attributing it to an unfortunate mix-up. While we acknowledge that human errors can happen, but the lack of transparency and the refusal to provide essential paperwork when requested felt like we were held hostage for payment. In conclusion, we strongly advise others to record all communication during such visits for their protection. We chose to stay only because of our deep concern for our dog, but under different circumstances, we would have left as soon as we sensed something amiss. Looking at the accusatory tone in their replies to previous reviews, I expect them to apologize for my choice in paying their misguided price figures. They seem to praise reviews with 5 stars as “excellent owners” and low reviews as situations that must be the owners inability to comprehend information. I'd suggest that you do what's absolutely necessary when taking your pet here and swiftly moving onto your regular vet. National Spay Alliance took their time, care, and professional service to another level in comparison (which is where we did his blood work for less than half the price and quadruple the informative conversation). We're glad our pup is safe, but we wish his life wasn't potentially forced into their hands.

My experience here was great. I was given different options from expensive in patient to cheaper at home care. I was explained the pros and cons of both and the lady gave me detailed instructions on how to care for the baby at home. This was a few months ago but I've also called with questions a couple times after and have always been treated wonderful. I've read some negative reviews recently and don't think some ppl understand that their baby is more important than everyone else's in their own mind and the clinic can only do so much at one time as much as that sucks. Also seems like some pet owners need to give themselves a negative review.

Wonderful. My wife and I have used this vet clinic several times over the years. They are excellent. Today our Brittany eat molded bread. He is always getting into something. We induced vomiting at home about 6pm. We followed up with the vet center and they were excellent speaking with us. Unfortunately our Bailey had a reaction and started vomiting blood at 4 am. We rushed him in. They went to work immediately. He was ok. They took the time with us explaining everything and answered our questions. Our pets are our family and I can’t thank them enough for all they do.

I went to SVEC with my very sick kitty. It was an absolutely devastating time for my little family, but they made it as comfortable and compassionate as possible. Ultimately, it was decided that I say goodbye to my little buddy and I couldn’t have asked for better support. Vanessa and the Doc were so kind and the nurse was so sweet to me and my little Kumo. This was one of the most difficult situations to imagine and they eased the pain and helped with my mourning far above and beyond any expectation. Thank you for your compassion. I will be forever grateful.

Worth negative stars! This place is every bad review. My service dogs were attacked and limbs bleeding everywhere with the possibility of needing to be amputated BUT 3 hours later they still hadn’t had surgery yet because 1. Had to wait to approve estimate 2. Had to wait for unnecessary blood work to be done 3. Then had to wait for “more serious animals” to be taken care of. But we were the only ones there when we pulled in. Terrible! Terrible place! My service dogs may lose their arms because of terrible service! They only want your money!!!!
