How to Save Money at Westside Veterinary Hospital Marietta GA
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I just want to start off with saying how amazing everyone who works there is, especially Dr. Steve! My diabetic cat sol has been coming here for 2 years and there’s no other place I’d take him. Dr. Steve truly cares about his patients and puts any animal is his care as his first priority. You can tell he truly cares about helping your furry pet. The staff have shown selfless acts to aid me and my cats even when it’s been an emergency They also have very affordable prices! Which relives so much stress with your finances if you have a pet that has constant health problems. I want to express again how appreciative I am with the whole staff, so thank you to Janie, Brittany, Misty, Dana, and Dr. Steve !

I accompanied a friend to Westside with his puppies that required hernia operations. We got an appointment quickly and the staff was great. Dr. Steve and his team obviously love animals. There were caring and professional. Additionally, the fees were very reasonable compared to many other vet clinics. We will definitely continue to drive to the other side of Marietta so he can take care of our dogs.

Westside Veterinary Hospital and Dr. King was well-recommended when I had my first rescue Collie after retiring. I’ve been going there ever since, about 14 miles away, even after Dr. king retired and Dr. Steve Hathcock took the practice. I’ve been well-satisfied with Dr. Steve and his staff and their care of my dogs. It’s gratifying to feel that they have my pups best interest at heart!

Dr Steve literally saved my dogs life! We have a 16 year old Border Collie mix, Colt, that had a mass. It was growing quickly and we knew he didn’t have a lot of time. We talked through all of the options and weighed the possible (heartbreaking) outcomes. We opted to do exploratory surgery to remove the mass not knowing what it was connected to. We took all precautions and prepared ourselves for the worst….which included family pictures and a steak dinner for our sweet old man. Colt was still so lively, it just didn’t seem right to do nothing or to put him down….didn’t have the heart for that. Dr Steve and his staff were amazing with him. They were able to remove the 4.5 lbs mass (yeah you read that right) and his spleen and he is doing amazing!!! He runs around more now than he did before the mass. He was given the gift of life. We understand that this is not always how it goes but are extremely grateful for Westside Vet and all of the caring hands that lead to Colt’s extended life. Thank you!!!

We have an English Springer named Journey and her skin has been terrible for years. Her stomach stayed red, she had bumps all over and her ears were terrible inside. We’ve been to 3 different vets and nothing they recommend has helped. The office manager, Misty, was able to get her in quickly and they kept her all day. Dr. Steve carefully assessed her gave her steroid and antibiotic injections. He recommended allergy testing and a complete panel of blood work. Misty stayed in contact with me all day as I was at work letting me know that Journey was good. They discovered a long list of things Journey is allergic to. Misty helped me find an affordable food and she helped me get pills we needed for Journey quickly. Misty helped me get set up on auto-shipments to help ensure we did not run out of pills. A month later, Journey is so much happier. She does not have any bumps on her skin, her ears are perfect now, and her stomach is no longer fire red! Thank you Westside Veterinary! Thank you Dr. Steve for the aggressive treatment and for suggesting the blood work for a complete panel of allergy testing. Thank you Misty for getting Journey in as a “new patient” so quickly, accommodating my work schedule, allowing me to leave her all day for her to be carefully evaluated, for communicating with me and helping us get things set up on auto-shipments for the medicine she needed. Thank you for helping me look through the different dry food options to find an affordable food. Westside Veterinary, Dr. Steve, and Misty are a blessing! I highly recommend this veterinary office! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! My sweet Journey is such a happy dog!
