How to Save Money at The Veterinary Clinic West
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Dr. Melinda and Nurse Kelley were so helpful, knowledgeable, encouraging, and kind. Our animals (Bearded Dragon and Ball Python) received better care than my children get from their physician. They took time to answer all of our questions and you could clearly tell that they care that animals are in good homes and being treated properly. Thank you, ladies! I feel much better since this experience.

I took my standard poodle puppy in for grooming today. This was our second visit. Our first grooming visit went fine. There was not any feedback regarding our dog, but the cut was exactly what I asked for. The reception area took forever but overall, no complaints. Our puppy has also been groomed a different facility and they have had nothing but positive things to say about him. I'll be going back there in the future. I tried this place because it is closer to home but good grief...today was TERRIBLE! There was a different groomer on site today. When I arrived, she first scolded me for using a harness with my puppy and told me I needed to invest in a choke collar in order to improve his leash walking. Then, she gave me her card and told me she provides in-home obedience training for the family. I was glad to receive this information at the time. Our puppy is young (5 months) and we have not hired an obedience trainer yet, but were planning to do so. Other trainers I have been in contact with suggested waiting until he is a little older (at least 6 months) and more able to learn and remember. He has been house trained and knows basic commands here at home. I left my dog for grooming services with this lady. She told me she would call when he was ready to go home. At 4:00, I still had not received a call (they close at 5), so I called them. I was told he had been ready for some time. When I arrived to pick up our puppy, the groomer came out and informed me that he was "wild and unruly" and she refused to ever groom him again unless I participate in obedience training (!). She informed me that I "obviously never say no" (not true...he is very obedient at home and most definitely has been told no!) and I "must never make him to things he doesn't want to do" (umm...hello...that's basically all crate/house training is.) After she left in a huff, I asked reception if the other groomer would be willing to work with us since she did not seem to have a problem. Reception was very rude and told me she had made a note in our file and no one would be offering their services until we bought obedience training. (!!) I informed her that this was ridiculous. I never got to see a vet at this place. We had an appointment but I promptly canceled all our future appointments. I will not give them one dime more. It took a lot of effort to pay for "services" today. They are rude, slow, haughty, and shady. I'll be the first to admit that my 5 month old puppy still has puppy behaviors. This is not my first dog but this is the first time someone has refused services unless I pay for additional services. What an incredibly corrupt business.

Everytime doctor Wilson comes into my room I know it’s going to be a good visit. He always makes sure to stick around until all my questions are answered and all my anxieties are lifted. Olive my bearded dragon never shows any signs of distress when being returned to me. That’s how I know they listen to what I tell them about her individual personality. I wouldn’t trust any other vet clinic with my sweet olive.
