How to Save Money at Good Dog Veterinary Care West Cobb
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We started taking our miniature schnauzer, Pete, here over the summer and we love Good Dog at West Cobb. Our vet is Dr. York and she is so kind and knowledgeable. I have a million questions when it comes to Pete’s health and she is so kind and answers them all without seeming to get irritated. We have taken our baby to other vets who do not really care about Pete and are just there for the money and will nickel and dime you at every turn but at Good Dog this is not the case. Everyone there is so nice that Pete willingly goes in the back with them. I also love that their office doesn’t look as sterile and cold as many traditional vets which puts us and Pete at ease. Pete recently got diagnosed with Epilepsy and we ended up having to take him to a veterinary hospital with a neurological unit but Good Dog called after they got send the results and asked if there was anything they could do and they all have been keeping him in their thoughts. We absolutely love Good Dog at West Cobb. Thank you so much for everything y’all do!!

We are so very grateful to have found Good Dog. A friend recommended the practice, and I want to recommend them to you: you couldn’t pick a better vet. We spend a lot of time here, and as we started down the road of breeding our pups, the Good Dog staff was supportive. Dr. Singletary and all the other doctors have been knowledgeable, kind, and available to work with us. My family loves the staff. A quick story for reference…a neighboring vet was recommending a very expensive, invasive procedure for a puppy from one of our litters. She had just been joined with her new family and they were first time dog owners. We were able to put them in touch with Good Dog and save them a couple thousand dollars by a practice that was just trying to take advantage. For me, this cemented our trust in them. I want to work WITH the people that care for our furry friends, it’s a partnership, and that’s what you’ll get here.

We have been going to Good Dog for a few years now and have had a pup with Dr Singletary as well as Dr Alvey as their primary. We have had nothing but amazing experiences from every single visit!! They really want to help the pups live their best lives whereas some vets just want to mask any issues. We’ve recommended Good Dog to all of our family and friends. We know at least 13 dogs now going there because we rave about them! Their front desk staff is top notch. It’s a kind group y’all have assembled. We are forever Good Dog fans!!

Dear Hans, Eight years ago we took your little boy to a litter of puppies. You immediately ran to his lap, refusing any litter mates to come near. It was official. You chose us. With your round belly and sweet puppy breath, you brought so much laughter to the challenges of military life. With each PCS, our children said goodbye to friends, homes, and communities. You gave us stability & comfort. Hans was always there. You came on every family trip, and gave us cause to go on hiking adventures in new places. Once, we even saw a black bear! Walking to creeks and watching you frolic was a bright spot during the pandemic. When we moved, yet again, you gave us reason to be brave and explore. After all, if we got lost, at least Hans was there. In a very literal sense, we will be lost without you at our next duty station. Thank you for your service, sweet boy. This was such a painfully high cost to being in a military family. We will always miss you & love you. In honor of Hans, please, don’t shop. Adopt. County shelters are giving away dogs & cats. Other services were overwhelmed, which meant during our hardest hour, help was unavailable for us. Thank you to the staff at Good Dog. I know this was just as torturous for you, and if there was a way to help, you would have found it.

Today was my first time visiting Good Dog Veterinary at the West Cobb location for a checkup for my 2-yr old Shih Tzu. Upon arrival, Marco greeted us with a friendly welcome. I was pleasantly impressed w/ the knowledge, attention to detail, kindness, & gentle care that Hannah & Dr. York provided to Wikka! Dr. York also took the time to answer my questions & discuss any concerns I might have regarding her care. Great location that’s close to home. Overall, it was an excellent experience & I highly recommend you check out Good Dog Veterinary!
