How to Save Money at Eastside Animal Medical Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
From the first phone call to the welcoming environment to the spectacular staff, Dr Bacon and Tracy were thorough with my sick kitty, Sunny’s treatment plan. He’s back on the right track & happily sunning on the porch not even 24 hours later! I’m so thankful for their amazing service! A+++ highly recommend!

This is my own personal experience. Brought a rescue cat in first thing on a Saturday morning. The receptionist was very up front with all the costs. She gave me several options and let me pick the best one for me. My cat was seen within within fifteen minutes or so. The Vet assistant was very thorough and sensitive to her needs, being that this was her first time ever being at a vet. The doctor was also very thorough and compassionate and explained everything that needed to be done that day and the costs, and what needed to be done in the future. This was a great experience for me and for the cat as well. Thank you, Dr. Hotep and the rest of the staff.

I went in with my very old and very sick dog. They took her back immediately and the doctor came in less than 2 minutes later. Dr. Baker was excellent. She was extremely thorough in her exam and thoughtful of the situation in her words and actions to both myself and my dog. She explained everything that she wanted to do and valued my input. When the doctor left the room, her assistant came in with a complete list of the items both completed and what the doctor recommended. This list also included the prices. The assistant went through the entire list, explained every detail and answered every question that I had. At this time I was able to make the decisions of everything that I wanted done and that I didn’t want done. Yes, their prices were a bit higher than normal, but this was an EMERGENCY SITUATION and is to be expected. Unfortunately I had waited too long to bring my pet in and I decided that it was time to put her to sleep. Through this process each and every person in the clinic knew what I was going through and were exceptionally respectful to both myself and when helping me to carry my pet out. If I had any other pets, & didn’t live out of state, I would make East Side Vets my vet of choice. Thank you, Kathy Heim

Brought my cat for a cardiac ultrasound. They were so good to her and all the workers were really polite and sweet. The only reason i give 4 stars instead of 5 is that the workers do need to communicate better with customers, as i was told by one lady that pickup time was 9-12, but told by another that it would be 2-5. It would be nice for them to be more clear on procedures and timing in the future. Beyond that i am really thankful for their services.

We took our dog for an abdominal sonogram, which costs a fortune. A test that can be immediately read and interpreted by a veterinarian. We had to wait 5 days to get the appointment for the test and now they will not even have a report for us for 4-5 additional days. I was told on the day of the sonogram that the results would be shared with his regular vet that day and results would be emailed to us as well. DID NOT HAPPEN. In the meantime, I guess we can just pray that our dog doesn't have something seriously wrong. Take your hard-earned money elsewhere to get prompt, professional service and information about your dog's health. Will NOT take our pets there again! In Response to Dr. Baker's reply: I only expected an email because YOUR personnel told me that I would get an email report. She even asked to verify that you had my email on file. I do not need you to correct my understanding of the services you provide, you need to correct your staff's understanding so they communicate accurate information to the patient owners. I can only go off what is shared with me. The results were not shared with our vet during working hours because we were in touch with them throughout the day and they were specifically watching for you to send it over as they knew we were anxious to hear the results. If you send reports after hours, they don't have the opportunity to review the information. Perhaps having more than one vet on duty would help in serving your patients as well.
