How to Save Money at Planned PEThood of Georgia

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This clinic does so much good for the community. Low cost spay and neuter is helpful when you love to a new house with a colony of a dozen or two feral cats. I’ve had 14 of my ferals fixed through planned PEThood and another stray dog we adopted. Thank you so much for all the work you all do on a daily basis. Georgia is in a better space today because of you all.

So this organization is amazing. I didn't want to get robbed by Petco by doing the monthly plan for the pet hospital. I made my appt three weeks out -paid the deposit to choose my services. Male cat is about five months old. I had to sign documents online. If your animal needs additional health services while on the table they call you and see if you want it. You pay through a link sent to your email at the end. I came in around 8.20am with my cat. Someone went through my paper work of services I requested and asked me if I wanted to donate. Just add something they are doing a great service. (even if it's only five bucks won't make or break you) I signed the paper, I left my cat with them and drove off. Pickup for cats was at 3:30. Cat came home with an E color and pine litter that I had requested and two syringes of something. My husband forgot but I administered them as notated in the after care sent home. One the day after surgery then another syringe in two weeks. The E collar blocked my cat's vision so I opted for a donut from Amazon. My cat was pretty loopy when he came home. But in the morning he is back to his old self and very happy. Please support them and donate and bring your pets for the wellness clinic! Amazing service friendly people.

Extremely grateful for the free vet clinic they offered in Walton. The experience was great and I can’t wait to come back to get my girl spayed when they have dates available. UPDATE: Came in for vaccines and the team was truly great! Phoenix went out of the way to advise me for better options for one of my babies and her efforts were highly appreciated. I would definitely recommend getting to your appointment early if you need any accommodation with your fur baby. See y’all in the future!

Planned Pethood is the BEST!! Everything went smoothly for my 1year olds spay. They even found that she had pyometra and called me 5 times (I was at work with ringer off) to make sure they got ahold of me to let me know. Luckily they caught it early so she is good and they let me know she will be okay, she just needs antibiotics. They also allowed early pickup the day I came. My dog is very reactive towards strangers and other dogs. They made accommodations for me and my dog to enter and had everyone stand back and move their dogs. They were so gentle with my girl and extremely nice. There were some people giving them a hard time by not following the rules (KEEP YOUR DOG IN THE CAR…simply for their protection against dogs like mine). These people were so rude and the staff was extremely patient and kind, even though these people were entitled and rude. Thank you so much for taking care of my baby and being so kind! Not to mention extremely affordable! My only recommendation I have is to buy an inflatable collar instead of using the one they give you.

They really care about keeping kitties healthy! Not only are the prices much more affordable, they sincerely care about the well-being of your pet and will tell you when a service you requested is not necessary.
