How to Save Money at Mountain Emergency Animal Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I was out of town (from Atlanta) and in Murphy, NC and my dog was bitten by another dog. I made the 30 minute drive and was shocked to pull in to a fully packed parking lot at 9:00 pm. I was told that all rooms were full, but they would see is when they could. It was around 11:00 before we got into a room, but the staff was very good at keeping us informed and taking care of Buster's immediate needs. I thought the charges were reasonable and they provided thorough and loving care for my dog. As the only emergency vet close by I would imagine they are always busy and do the the best they can to meet everyone's needs.

I had the unfortunate happen on Saturday. My pup discharged a large amount of blood in his urine. Scared me big time. Of course, all vets in our area close on the weekends. I decided to go to Mountain Emergency vet. What a blessing this was. The staff were completely engaged at every step. They were friendly and very competent. Granted, they were extremely busy. But I knew this going in since it was a weekend. But even given that, we were taken care of in a very professional manner. My dog has meds and is on his way to recovery. Thank you Mountain Emergency!

Dr. Val and her team were incredible and literally saved the life of my Birdy dog. They paused all incoming clients due to a major emergency surgery my dog needed and were able to stabilize her until we transitioned her to UGA for long term assessment and healing. We’re eternally grateful.

I highly recommend them especially in the event that you are needing to say goodbye to your fur baby. I was in that position on 4/29/23, I had to make the hardest decision n in my life to let go of not only my fur baby and best friend but also my emotional support dog. I helped birth her 13 years ago and she was by far the best fur baby I have ever had. The staff was so kind and compassionate from the first phone call and all the way through the process. They allowed us to take as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes. We were not rushed in anyway. It was a calm and peaceful environment and when we were ready she came right in and explained everything that she was going to do. She again did not rush me to leave after my baby girl was gone. They made me a paw print and even put her in a nice little coffin looking box. That was Saturday and today I received a really sweet card from the staff. They made one of the worst moments of my life as comfortable as possible. I 10/10 recommend! And am forever thankful for them and the fact that they were available on a Saturday!!!

We had an emergency with our French Bulldog and are from out of town. We were advised to take her to Mountain Emergency Animal Center. We were seen right away and the staff took great care of our dog. Everyone on staff took the time to explain what was being done to our dog. The veterinarian (Dr. McNeely) explained what the situation was and what course of action she wanted to take to help our dog. The staff and Dr. McNeely made sure that all of our questions were answered. We would definitely recommend Mountain Emergency Animal Center for any emergencies.
