How to Save Money at Oak Grove Animal Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Emily and Dr. Jacob! The staff is very knowledgeable. They take the time to explain everything to you, so you KNOW you’re making the best decision for your pet! My poor cat was struggling with a Herpes diagnosis from a previous clinic. I was having to medicate him EVERY day with 3 different eye drops and antibiotics. I came to see Dr. Emily, and she was able to run tests and find out he wasn’t even affected by Herpes but Chlamydia instead! My cat went from squinting and sneezing 24/7 for months to being completely normal! The best part is I don’t have to medicate him at all anymore. Don’t even get me started on how much they spoiled my babies while we were there!! 10/10 we’ve found the best clinic in town! Photos from before and after proper treatment!

Pretty sure that Oak Grove Animal Clinic just saved my dog’s life. He is a 95 pound American bully and has six years of difficult, aggressive vet trips in his past. All previous vets have had to sedate him to be able to do an exam. Having recently moved to Athens, I did not have a new vet established and he started having an emergency allergic reaction to something. Not only did they see him right away (within twenty minutes of my call), but they had never met and within twenty more minutes he was kissing the vet on the face! I’ve never seen him do that and I’ve never seen a more compassionate clinic. This is the place to take your pet if you want truly compassionate care. Thank you to the heroes that saved my best friend. May all the best come your way!

This vet is AMAZING!! Every single person that we came across, from the receptionist to the vet techs to the doctor herself were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable!! They were thorough and our kitten, Sugar, loved them, as did we! So glad to have found this veterinarian and plan on bringing all of our animals there for the exceptional care they provide and our pets deserve!! We 100000000%, hands down recommend!! Out of 10 stars, we’d give them a million:):):)

I love this vet!!! After having negative experience at my last vet, my faith in pet health care was restored. I had to wait in the waiting room for 30 minutes after my appointment was scheduled because of a miscommunication, however all three staff members that saw me all apologized so much. They are very understanding of the financial limitations of college students and spend a lot of time talking through different options and pricing. They also helped my cat genuinely feel better, which of course is priceless. One thing that stuck out to me was that they decided not to try and get a rectal sample because my cat was already overwhelmed from all the other stuff going on. Then I could go home and just get a sample from his liter box. I felt like my cat was really in good hands because they were so thoughtful. They also trimmed up his claws and cleaned up his ears as a favor , which is just above and beyond. It can be hard for owners to do things that make their pet uneasy so having it handled by a professional takes a weight off. I also loved how they were flexible and accommodating about his care. I asked lots of questions and they were happy to prescribe the exact products that I felt like were a good price, I could actually give him, and that would actually help him. Overall it was a great experience, not to mention the facility was also very cute and clean.

Can’t say enough how thankful i am for Dr. Emily and Dr. Jacobs. Our sweet lab got attacked by a buck, we called the clinic as we were on the way in full panic. When we got there they were immediately ready for us, got him back for X-rays and unfortunately surgery. They kept us well informed the entire time, let us look at different pricing options, and really took the time to sit down and explain the steps of recovery for him. In a stressful situation they really calmed us down.
