How to Save Money at Hamby Road Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’m so beyond thankful for the vets and staff here. They have been instrumental in the survival and general care of my breeding female and her puppies. My keeper puppy who is only 6 months got injured last night going through an agility tunnel. They squeezed me in immediately today. The staff recognized her and immediately began spoiling her and comforting me. They’ve known her since the day she was born when I had to do an emergency c-section for the last puppy in my litter. They continued to give the best care for my dogs who are my entire world. I can’t thank them enough for everything they do and how I know they are in good hands when I can’t be right there with them. My girl is currently with them getting x-rays when they are able to fit her in. It’s the first time she’s been housed away from me which made me nervous, but knowing she is with them makes me feel so much better. When I started breaking down in tears out of fear this may be a career ending injury, they were quick to comfort me. They truly treat you like family there. I’m a professional dog trainer and working dog breeder. They are highly skilled and truly care about your dogs. I won’t go anywhere else for my dogs.

We had to drive our girl 3hrs to Dr.Bob on a Saturday morning to have her puppies. The staff as well as the Dr’s we so nice, helpful and I could not have been happier with our experience. If possible I will scheduling my girls c-section here instead of our home town! It’s worth it!!!!

I brought my American Bully puppy here for ear cropping. Dr. Adams did a wonderful job. The staff is great and they took excellent care of my sweet puppy while he was there. If we didn't live so far away we would be using them as our regular vet. I highly recommend this veterinary hospital!

MJ Rottweiler Ranch

About a month ago I was referred to Hamby Rd animal Hospital by my former vet office due to being unable to do frozen breedings. The day I came to Hamby I met veterinarian Dr. Bob I told him my dreams and aspirations, and how I want to become a atlantas most reputable Rottweiler breeder. He welcomed me with open arms and told me he hoped he could help me with my dreams. From the moment I knew this was my home vet and I have brought 3 of my females in and have had my first c section here. There’s so much more to say I’m super blessed to have the friendly staff greet me at the door some by name. I don’t see myself going to any other vet. I’m blessed to have Hamby as my home animal hospital as I thrive to reproduce quality Rottweilers in Atlanta. Thank you all so much I hope you enjoyed the logo pens! Yours, Mj Rottweiler Ranch

The best Vets! We use them mostly for our reproductive needs, only because they are over an hour from us, otherwise we would take all our dogs there for everything. The staff is amazing, the Vets, are not only friendly but knowledgeable and willing to give you as much information as needed. The reproductive vets are available anytime day or night, weekends or holidays if you have any questions or concerns. I have never had an issue with this office.
