How to Save Money at Lake City Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
If I could provide less than one star, I would. The follow-up from this animal hospital is abysmal. I understand being busy. I understand having a lot of patients and incoming demand. As an IT professional, I deal with this in my own day job. What I don't understand is, as a customer, having to call three or more times to try and acquire medication for my dog. This is not the first time we've had terrible follow-up and promises to receive text notifications or indication that my dog's medication is ready. The first was for pain management for my older dog. It took me well over a week to procure his medicine to maintain his pain management. I had to call this animal hospital five times and then physically walk in myself to get my dog's medicine. This time, I called a week in advance to try and procure anxiety medication ahead of the July 4th weekend. On Saturday, I was told we would receive notice once the Vet was in on Monday and the prescription approved. I got nothing. I called back Thursday to follow-up. Apparently the woman I spoke with at the front desk didn't make a note and didn't follow up with the vet. I was then told they would do the same - seek approval and then notify me when the medication was ready. I was also told that if I did not hear back in 24 hours to reach back out. Today (Friday) I did exactly that and the medication is still not ready or even approved. I am deeply frustrated with this experience. There is no accountability in this office, and it seems like all I've gotten is a shrug and "well, we'll get to it in a few hours when we get to it." I won't be going back to Lake City Animal Hospital, which is a real shame.

Great work getting my big knucklehead back in order after injuring his paw. Murphy is terrified of the Vets at first however the techs and nurse / doctors always calm him down. You can be assured your pet is in great hands with these animal loving doctors and staff

My dog was my best friend and saved my life more than once. I brought her here because they had always been good to us. From the moment I walked in to check her in for a lame front leg this experience was different. In hindsight I should have walked away and chosen somewhere else, but I didn’t trust my intuition. The way that I was treated while my best friend was on her death bed was deplorable. They didn’t start treating me with real understanding until I had made the horrible decision to end her suffering. They called to see if I wanted to try and get her to eat which I did and when I went in it seemed as though no one had seen her all day. Her skin was cold and she was limp all over and wouldn’t even pick her head up. Her condition had obviously worsened and they told me she was still the same. Which was a lie. I asked for someone to come and look at her. The technician who came to the door didn’t want to even touch my girl. She kept telling me that I didn’t have the funds for another examination fee and argued with me the entire time until I had to tell her to leave me alone with my dog. I have been talked down to and ignored the whole experience. I made the decision to let her go and stayed with her until the end and when I walked out people were laughing and joking and the candles that are supposed to be lit so that people know someone is going through the process of letting their loved one go were not lit and so no one was respectful of what I had just gone through unless they were in the room with me. This experience was hard enough, they just made it so much worse. Now they will probably respond to this review with a copy and pasted “we’re so sorry for you loss. Please contact blah blah blah to discuss your experience”. If you love your pets, do not trust this place. They have changed and I’m afraid they will never be the same. I do appreciate the few people who did treat me with kindness, but I do not appreciate the looks and whispers and disagreeable attitude of every other person I came across in that building. Edit to add: it’s been 2 weeks since they commented their condolences and said someone would be in touch. I’ve come to the conclusion that must have been a lie because I haven’t heard from anyone. I still miss my dog every single day and I regret more than anything not taking her somewhere else for a second opinion. There will never be a time where I won’t regret that decision and I encourage you not to trust this place at all costs.

Great experience overall. They didn't push me to give my dog a scene that she doesn't need and when I requested to be in the room while they gave her the shots and drew blood they were totally fine with that.

I have been a client with Lake City for 25+ years. In those years they have been there to celebrate new pets, provide excellent care and help me through the difficult goodbyes. I highly recommend Lake City to anyone needing pet care.
