How to Save Money at Affordable Vet Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It was our first time using this vet. Wasn’t allowed in the back for the actual examination but I can deal with that. Cost was so much more affordable than our last vet. I made a point to talk to other people waiting and all said they had been going to them for years. Good quality care. Will go back for sure.

This SHADY and shoddy place ought to be closed down. Disrespectful, lazy and uncouth staff. The "vet" is a joke and one of the rudest, most despicable "people" around. Unreliable appointment times with sorry excuses. Close this place! They'll tell you your dogs need to be euthanized just to make a quick buck. The place is a pigsty, in a rough area in Winter Garden. They're are NOT honest now affordable. I've had a few friends bring their pets here and they come out severely I'll and the "vet" couldn't care any less. They know they're at the bottom of the competition with closure imminent and all that want is to get money, close an open somewhere else again. They're a scam and have done this 7 times in different counties in FL. If you truly love your furry babies, DO NOR bring them to this slaughterhouse

I usually come to this office just for vaccines or as a second option from my pet’s regular vet. It is affordable and used to work for me until yesterday when I had the worst experience in my life. We made the toughest decision of euthanizing our 19 year old dog. We have had her since 3 months old when we adopted her at a shelter. She has been the most amazing pet ever. They greeted us at the door, which I found impersonal considering the reason for our visit. They took my dog and made me wait outside to receive a call from the very unprofessional vet, making me feel I was the worst person in the world. All our conversation about this was handled over the phone. She refuses to listen to my concerns and keeps interrupting me and talking over only concerned about getting her point rather than listening to the reason we took that difficult decision. If I got there with my heart broken, I left there traumatized. She heard me in tears from the beginning of the conversation and treated me like I didn’t care about my dog. She ended up telling me that if I have a 99 year old grandmother laying in bed, that doesn’t mean I’m going to kill her. The conversation turned into an argument and I ended the call and went back to get my dog. She open the door and gave me my dog in front of other people that where waiting, with more arguments and making me look as a dog killer in front of all people. I took my dog and left in tears. I called her regular vet, which I should have done from the beginning, and he patiently listened to all my concerns with a lot of empathy, in person and with privacy, checked my dog and agreed with my decision. He emphasized on how well she was cared for all these 19 years and that made me feel relieved even though I was heart broken. As another review stated, I can’t believe a vet would want an animal to keep suffering any longer. And she should learn that caregivers are as important as their own pets.

I like this place, they help me when my dog has eczema some months ago, the staff is nice and the prices are really affordable.

Doctor fine was able to see my cat yesterday on short notice due to his condition. He had brown saliva And was drooling profusely as well as lethargic. I could not be with him during the visit, but she called me on my cell and let me know he was very nauseous and she gave him Cerenia Feline nausea shot and subcutaneous fluids. She also ordered blood labs for him. We were sent home and he started feeling better immediately. I followed Dr. Fine's orders and waited until after midnight (about 8 hours) to feed him a light meal. Today they called and let me know his lab results and his white blood count was high and suggested an antibiotic shot and to come in before 2 PM. The experience was very good so far and pretty fast and VERY affordable! My mom had our Chihuahua neutered by her in 2016 at her old location. I will definitely be returning for teeth cleaning and other preventive care or emergencies too (hopefully none!).
