How to Save Money at Pet Dentist At Tampa Bay
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat Jack was just in for 3 extractions due to resorption issues. It is a bit of a wait to get an appt but this was not an emergency. The office staff were very friendly and reassuring. Dr Smithson was incredible- I couldn't believe how easy and quiet the mouth exam went in my nervous cat! The entire procedure and cost was explained up front with no hidden charges.I got a call reporting progress once the surgery was done. Everything went well and best of all is a long-lasting pain medicine applied to the skin so I didn't have to give any oral pain meds. When I went to pickup Jack, Dr Waters showed me the xrays and discussed the procedure. Though the treatment is a bit costly, I would not go anywhere else. There's no way I could let my cat suffer with tooth pain !

I cannot thank the staff at the Pet Dentist enough for the amazing work they have done on my puppy. My puppy suffered with an enamel defect and they were able to turn her teeth around completely. They are the best you can get for your pet. I was fully impressed with their professionalism, knowledge, and hard work they put into each animal. I was throughly updated throughout the entire process and the end result was amazing. My puppy can live a normal life now and was able to keep all of her teeth. We drove almost two hours to have our puppy worked on, and I would do it all over again. I truly felt my pet was cared for and well taken care of. Now, my puppy is happy, and doesn’t have to worry about her teeth.

The lack of professionalism and GREED by these people is astounding. If you have an emergency don't even bother because the wait for any appointment is 6+ months out, might as well sit on their waiting lists forever and pray. When you finally do go through and spend THOUSANDS of dollars on a procedure they will tell you to schedule a follow-up appointment for a year out. When I did that NOBODY mentioned that there would be additional procedures done at the follow-up. They called 3-4 times to confirm everything was in order, basically blood work and appointment confirmation, not ONCE did anyone mention additional charges, anesthesia, or taking additional X-Rays. They ALSO didn't mention that it would be an additional $1000 for those X-Rays. The only reason I found out was because on the last call they asked to make sure my dog didn't have anything to eat the night before and i asked "why?". THEN she went into the whole explanation of everything that was going to happen AND how much it costs. When I explained that NONE of this had ever been mentioned before and I thought I was just coming in for a routine follow-up she goes "Well thats why im calling you now to explain"... NO you were calling me to CONFIRM the only reason you were explaining ANYTHING was because I asked the questions when things didn't make sense - you don't get to play innocent with me after the fact. Then the response at the end "well you can always call your vet and have them do it for you if you don't want to go with us" - YAH let me do that since all that is needed is an X-RAY i don't need to ya'll and get ripped off. And of course my vet calls around to see whats what and see if there are better/easier pricing and catches an attitude from them as well. Ya'lls front office is TERRIBLE and needs replacing. I would never in good conscience recommend this place to anyone

The doctors and staff at the Wesley Chappel location of the Dentist of Tampa Bay are seriously among the best! Once I got my cat to their center they were able to thoroughly assess the problem and got her right into surgery. I could not thank Dr. Smithson and the talented team at the Pet Dentist!
