How to Save Money at Sunrise Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

If I could give zero stars, I would. BLUF: Dr. Ely is in the business of making money, rather than treating your pet. I have a 18 month old Golden Retriever who has had stomach issues since he was probably 3 months old. He was going to daycare while my wife and I were at work and he ended up picking up Coccidia and was treated while we were taking him to Garden Street Animal Hospital. Dr. Meyer is a great vet; however, he was never successful in properly diagnosing my dog, but rather gave the same antibiotic each time he got sick. We decided to try another vet, and thats how we landed at Sunrise Animal Hospital. I will say, things went well the first couple appointments, and I "am" grateful that Dr. Ely actually knew enough to put an actual diagnosis for what my dog has. In just 1-2 appointments, she determined he had Colitis, and she came up with a plan for treating him, which was to change his food, give him Metamucil, give him meds to rule out Whipworm, and some other various things. I grew up with a dog that had Colitis, so I had my dad reach out to the same vet they went to for years and they informed him that they prescribed our dog Tylosin, so I brought it up to Dr. Ely. Her first words were "Tylosin has no negative side effects, but we'd like to try out other things first." I was fine with this at first, but we tried a couple different things and my dog continued to get sick. After a handful of appointments, I asked if we could just try Tylosin since we both knew of this medication and it's treatment with Colitis. Dr. Ely said "lets try this... (whatever it was) and if this doesn't work, we'll try Tylosin." Well, not even 2 weeks later, my dog got sick again, so I took him in. Immediately Dr. Ely tried figuring out what event in our lives caused this to flare up again, and nothing changed at our house. I did take him to get Groomed, which we do quite frequently, so she decided that maybe the groomers gave him a treat which caused his flare up of his colon, which ultimately caused him to have bloody/mucusy stool. She went as far as claiming that "what we're doing is working" and thats when I said I dont think any part of this plan is working. I requested Tylosin, as at our last appointment she told me we could try it if these efforts failed. I was frustrated because I have dealt with this issue and seeing my dog in misery time and time again, and at Garden Street it was the following: Appt Fee Fecal Test Antibiotics Pro-Pectalin and then I go to Dr. Ely and it's like she didn't even take the time to review his charts. The first appointment I was told to bring in a stool sample, which I did, and then it was blood work, and then an appointment fee, and more antibiotics, and more pro-pectalin. The moment where I had enough was when the staff told me to bring in another stool sample, which would leave me another bill for the same efforts that failed in the past. All while waiting to just try a medication that she has seen "once before" (she made it clear she's only prescribed this 1 time in her 30+ year career) and one that she even told me had no negative side effects. In my time at Sunrise, it was clear to me that Dr. Ely is not in the businesses of helping your pet, she is clearly a typical company that is pushing pharmaceuticals and taking you for what your worth. The time before my last steps inside Sunrise, Dr. Ely got agitated with me asking for Tylosin and immediately stepped up from her seat in the most unprofessional way possible and said "fine, write him a script for Tylosin" and she provided zero antibiotics for the time while waiting for Tylosin to come in, but instead gave my dog more pro-pectalin. 3 days later I ended up calling the office and complained and she made it her agenda to personally call me later in the day to tell me "I was wearing out her staff and that I needed to regroup and learn to work with her" She is hands down the most unprofessional Dr. that I have ever dealt with, and it would be wise for her to just hang up the coat. By the way, Tylosin is working for my pet

They have been very friendly with my pup and cat. Quick appointments for short services, and my pets have never had an issue related to care (No yelping or whining when arriving or after care) would definitely recommend for typical pet care!

I do need to warn you that Dr. Ely has no bedside manner and is pretty rude, speaking loudly about me and others. It felt that I'd been in an abusive relationship. She doesn't come into the room but remains in the hallway, briefly speaking from that vantage point. And, for a long time, her policy made my friend/transportation sit in his car versus waiting in the near empty lobby. Too, I'd been charged $19.00 for Gentamicin spray and it was not in my items taken home in a bag, but disappeared before I'd left. Also, one large employee with large fingers, released my small dog's glands, causing my small dog to bleed from that area immediately so I immediately made an appointment.. The doctor charged me to be seen for damages inflicted by her employee. And, she only allowed 3 months of HeartGard and NexGard, causing me to be seen every 3 months and pay for each of those visits. Also, though I'd requested one trusted technician, Dr. Ely didn't allow it though the tech had been working that very day. Too many issues to name. On the other hand, Dr. Ely and her staff are really dedicated and knowledgeable. For example, Dr. Ely noticed right away that my mini poodle/ bichon had a skin infection and fever affecting her appetite. She treated my dog effectively and skillfully, along with the staff who are so very kind. Thank you Tia, Lisa and others for your kindnesses. I've since been visiting another well known Animal Hospital and am very satisfied. And they do a blood panel and inform me of the results. And they're young, vital professionals. Molly sees the head of veterinarians and is happy, as am I.
