How to Save Money at Coastal Animal Clinic - Tampa

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Scheduled a first appointment for my 2 puppies. I was called at 8:30 am the day of my appointment, the vet was running behind on his surgery. So I was ask if I could come in at 12:30 instead of 11, so me being the nice person I am said no problem. After fighting an hr and half of traffic due to the rescheduling they needed me to do. I got there a few mins behind. So instead of calling me to see if I was almost there or needed to reschedule. I was told when I walked in the vet had went to lunch already and he couldn’t fit me in later! Felt that was very rude after having me reschedule because of the vet running behind himself! I wouldn’t recommend traveling the distance to see this vet! It was definitely not worth my time or having to deal with the ridiculous traffic nor for me to be understanding when he was running behind!! Plus had had to put my 2 puppies though the long distance of traveling for no nothing!!! 👎👎👎👎 my poor babies Instantly fell asleep on my lap just from the stress of traveling there.

Wonderful clinic! Great staff and always takes care of my babies. The two Veterinarians they have are fantastic and their team of techs are just as awesome. My Penny can be a handful and they handled him with ease, they are troopers for that one! Highly recommend this animal-loving team! ❤️ 🐈‍⬛ 🐈 ❤️

We brought our new puppy into this office this week for her first check up. The staff was really nice and so sweet to our puppy. They listened to all of our initial concerns and were thorough in her exam. We were able to get the medicine that day in the office and left very relieved. Thank you!

This veterinary clinic is amazing. I have been rescuing Rottweilers for over 12 years now. I have been in many clinics around Tampa Bay area, in all those years. Yesterday, we took a recently rescued Rottweiler, that was previously taken to two different clinics before, because he was very sick, and he was treated there but still not getting better. During the visit to Coastal Animal Clinic, Dr. West took the time to listened to our rescue volunteer, reviewed all his test that were done before, performed complete examination, and run a new set of x-rays and test while kept him under observation for 4 hours. When Grizzly left the facility, he was already doing much better, he left with a clear diagnosis, a complete treatment, a plan for his care for the next few days, and we are feeling confident that he is now on the right track to recovery. The clinic staff was courteous. attentive and polite; they answer all our questions, they treated us, in person and over the phone, with kindness. We are extremely grateful and will be taking our rescued dogs here in the future.

Best vet in Tampa, unfortunately I had another vet prior to taking my pup before bringing him by and it was to late for my fur baby but they were the sweetest and gave me options for payments, medication. We did sadly have to put my babyboy down but they were so comforting thru the whole process even sent a condolences card, I will be taking all my future fur babies to this vet. You guys are amazing thank you again for making this hard experience just a little easier.
