How to Save Money at Allied Veterinary Emergency Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely wonderful service provided to our little baby girl Kirby. We went in with concerns about Kirby damaging her irritated eyes and were met by very friendly front office employee Brittni who got us checked in right away and into a room. Jason P came in within 2 minutes to help us fill out the questionnaire and give us a heads up about what to expect. Kirby was seen by Dr. Kuhar very quickly who spoke with us about the plan to get Kirby back to good health and explain what each part of the treatment would cost. Dr. Kuhar is clearly an Authority in her field and I felt confident in her diagnosis and treatment plan. Jason came back in at the end of our visit to give clarity to the healing process on our end and help us get checked out. Jason even gave us very good advice on how to use eye drops on our little wiggler. I am so happy with this clinic and would highly recommend them to anyone who needs emergency care for their pets!

When we moved to Tallahassee we lost our fospice dog (Midas) vet/medical from the shelter so when Midas had skin issues we took him to Allied. We thought going on Sunday at 10 am (when a lot of people are in church) would be a great idea. We waited for 4 hours😭 only to be told they were so busy they couldn’t do some skin tests on him but we didn’t get an discount for the service. We both feel our dog got short changed in the service because they were understaffed for the day. This is probably a good place for just emergencies but we couldn’t find a vet that was taking new patients or there was a 5-6 week wait.

The people who work in veterinary care are often overlooked in their importance. At some of people’s most distressed times, they’re the ones who provide the kindness our fur babies need. I want to thank the entire staff for their wonderful service and level of understanding they provide. Our sweet Boo is home relaxing in his favorite spot thanks to the 24hr. care provided at Allied by their excellent staff.

I was going to leave a long review but I believe this will suffice. First, I’d like to thank the front staff and techs who were extremely professional. Now to Dr. Laura Clayton, our Cane Corso didn’t die like you so rudely stayed he would if we did not admit him and allow you to treat him for an estimated $4k-$7k. However, the Cane Corso that we did bring to you a year and half ago did die. Because instead of seeking a second opinion (like we did this time around), we went with your prognosis and suggestion of euthanizing him after your statement of “no matter how much money you throw at it, he probably won’t recover”. If you’re tired and no longer want to provide compassion and care, maybe it’s time to retire after the “30 years of experience “ you kept mentioning. We would have preferred Northwood but due a shortage, we had no other choice but to go to Allied. We ended up going to Capital Veterinary Specialists (as a recommendation from Northwood) and they were AMAZING from beginning to end and saved our pup and our pockets. We took a small kitten here who was suffering from a blocked salivary gland. The place was very clean, and they were able to diagnose the problem and provide care with caring and dignity for our pet. The wait was a bit longer than we were accustomed to, but there were also many more patrons than our usual emergency vet. The price was very reasonable, and it was nice to have an estimate for the visit before we even arrived.
