How to Save Money at Sunset Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Don’t bring your pets here. I have tried countless times to give this vet a chance but they are liars and gold diggers. My mom took my pet to check for an ear infection. She had copious black discharge from her ear as seen in the picture and I was worried. My pet was taken away from my mom to be treated behind doors. My mom was told she did not have an ear infection and what she needed was a $347 allergy shot that lasted 5-6 weeks. My mother called me during the appointment and I spiked with whoever was on the line and I was also told she did not have an infection and the the allergy shot was the best and most affordable option for her allergies. They mentioned that there was also pills but never mentioned the price. When asked, they told us that the pills were $53 for 14 weeks. When you do the math, that is not cheaper. After my dog got home I checked her ear and it was getting worse. So I called them because I knew there was no way they did a swab and it came back negative. During my first call I was told that no swab was done. They redirected me to the vet who told me that she indeed did have an infection by that it was caused by allergies. I asked why my dog was allowed to be sent home without any treatment and they simply said that we denied it. This is false. We came in for her to be checked for an ear infection and we’re SEEKING treatment for only that. We were told she did not have an ear infection when in fact she did. Now my dog is still untreated, but I will be taking her elsewhere. This whole experience is unbelievable.

The staff at Sunset Animal Hospital are all kind and caring people. They always make me feel comfortable and are there to answer all my questions. I always feel that they take the time to discuss everything with me and not just rush me out of the office. Dr. Polit is very gentle and loving to my maltipoo Laci, who loves her.

Bad experience! A couple weeks ago my mother took my pet to be seen at this clinic for some loose stools, and not acting herself.. I didn’t want my pet to feel bad for too long so I specifically made my appointment for the earliest available which was 9AM. My mom got to the clinic at 8:50AM and she waited for about 15 minutes until she was taken into an exam room. At this point, it’s 9:25-9:30AM and my mom is still waiting to see a doctor. The tech kept telling my mom that the doctor would be in shortly but this was probably the 4th time my mom asked for a doctor. It was about 9:45- 9:50am and still my pet hasn’t been seen and the tech continued to say the doctor was busy. How can the doctor be busy is my pet was the very first appointment of the day. It’s ridiculous to have to wait an hour for a doctor. Why have 9AM appointments when no doctor is in the building or “busy”. Long story short my pet was never seen, and my mom wasted her time. I took my pet now elsewhere and is getting much better care and we were seen at our appropriate appointment time!!. I won’t be coming back to this clinic ever.

What an amazing first time experience. I've gone to chain clinics in the past and they have totally changed my perspective on pet health. They set up the first appointment and asked me about my pet, did a health follow up call BEFORE my appointment (free) and gave me 2 reminder calls. The appointment was smooth and efficient and covid friendly! They stood outside my car and asked my concerns, and were so gentle with my pup. They communicated at all times during the visit over phone, let me weigh my options, and answered all my questions. When telling me prices they didn't push me to make a choice! I will 10000% be coming back here, amazing work! 👏

A challenging day for my dog Chase with a paw problem today. Sunset took an appointment last minute and had him stay the day to evaluate his problem. Back a 3:00 with a true understanding of his situation and staff very empathetic. Very professional and helpful in this pretty busy Animal hospital. Highly recommend!
