How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This was a great experience. I needed to take my girl to the vet and couldn’t get into my vet. I took a chance and booked here. Everyone was caring and helpful. I’ve already made another appointment. Thank you

These guys are great. I drive all the way from apopka to take Rizo here. Everyone is super pleasant and friendly....they're knowledgeable and efficient. It's also pretty reasonably priced. My healthy chiweenie thanks them even if she doesn't always enjoy the visit!

The doctor and nurses were amazing. I had to put my 15 year old cat to sleep unfortuently and the staff were amazing. My husband and I felt comforted by the staff. They were able to take care of her for us the same way we would. They had her cremated for us and when we got the remains back everything was in a nice blue bag. Everything was packaged well and handled with so much care. The lady at the front desk also gave me inkings of her nose and paw prints along with some fur clippings. She was just so kind and caring. I really appreciated the care and attention they gave us. We will be returning with our other pets! This experience made us so comfortable and cared for. Thank you to all of the staff that was there with us on that horribly tough day.

Matthew at the Petco Vital clinic in Sanford #02703 was the absolute best person any pet owner can come across. I went in for what I thought was a minor cough my for my cat, and it was almost a terminal illness. Had it not been for Matthew’s calm and soothing demeanor upon hearing this news, I would of walk out of there a mess and inconsolable. Dr. Edward was stern and informative, and it was much appreciated. I was given a choice on my options of care moving forward and both Matthew and Dr. Edward were able to give me the opportunity not lose my beloved cat, Martha. I have never experienced such a warmth and care from a person in a clinic/hospital setting as Matthew. He gave me both hope and strength to care for Martha - that she will be ok, and she will bounce back from this terrible illness. 5 days later, Martha is halfway there, almost fully recovered, breathing without issues and temperature is back to normal. I can not recommend this clinic enough, and even more, I can not recommend Matthew taking care of your pet whether a emergency or routine, you will never be more pleased with his love for animals and professionalism! Utterly grateful to this little clinic!

It was my first time here with my dog and we had a very good visit. From our first encounter with the receptionist to our exit it was great. I have a very reactive dog and they were very understanding and worked their best to do what they could with him and explained everything to me and our options so I had a full understanding of what he needed at our next visit to get him back to his normal self. I called the next morning to make his appointment. I didn’t feel rushed through the appointment at all or like my anxiety ridden dog was a burden like I did at his previous vet. I’m glad I decided to come here after a recommendation from a friend. We signed up for the care program as well.
