How to Save Money at Stevens Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Marlene, the groomer at their new location is the best we've found since we moved down 9 years ago. It took us a long time to find our last groomer, and we were heart broken when she left. As it turns out it was a blessing. Marlene is so much better! And closer! She actually listens to what you want her to do!! She'll offer some of her own ideas and techniques, which are great, and then give your pet the cut you asked for. More importantly our dogs seem to love her. When we used to take them to the girl that replaced our former groomer, they were anxious, and afraid to go, and to enter the shop. they would come home the same way. You could tell they weren't being treated well at all. When we go to Marlene, they're happy and excited, then they fall asleep on the way home. Less than five minutes away. If your looking for a groomer look no further. We love her!

We have been clients of Dr. Stevens for 20 years. Every member of their team is amazing and there is no other vet team in the area as compassionate and kind as they are. About 4 years ago we started to use their groomer, Marlene who we adore. She has worked with us for our past 4 dogs and does a great job. You can see from our photos how amazing she is. I would recommend Dr. Stevens and Marlene for all of your pet issues. They are a first class act!!

In January 2023 I was referred to the is clinic by my dogs breeder for shots when we first adopted him nearby. I specifically saw Dr. C. Vigo and from the moment she examined my Golden-doodle Charlie we were amazed by her care and attention. We expected a few minutes examination and a huge bill but instead she took her time to talk to us. Offered suggestions for far more than just basis shots and teething. She showed us tricks and tips for training a very active doodle, informed us in the importance of health/ medical insurance, etc… a true pleasure meeting her. A few months later after returning to Florida Charlie developed a hear infection and we had to visit Dr Vigo. She expressed the same amount of care and attention to our puppy. We decided then and there to proceed with the nurturing surgery and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Dr. Vigo, thank you for all you have done for Charlie! He’s an amazing and healthy puppy. Your care has assured us a green paw of health and lots of happiness! Grace C.

This place is a beautiful place with more beautiful people who are employed there. The level of care and compassion that they have for all of their clients and their families is by far the most thorough I have ever seen at an animal hospital. Dr. Chris and Dr. Mark are incredibly sweet and give their all to ensure that each animal gets 100% attention by themselves and every member of the staff. If you truly love your pet, please consider going. You will not be disappointed

There are not enough stars to really show the value of the service. The atmosphere is so welcoming, my typically neurotic dog would nap while we waited. Dr. Chris is most caring, warm, gentle vet I have ever been to with my dogs and cats. She checks my animals head to tale each time and takes time and care, never skipping anything to speed up the process.Dr.Mark is a wizard surgeon, has operated on both of my dogs. The stitching was perfect and incision healed fast and with no complications or even scars. Several times my old dog had emergency situations and I was always able to be fit in and once Dr. Mark stayed past closing time waiting on us to arrive. Techs are super too. They clearly love the animals, very gentle and kind. Veronica and Maggie have put up with a lot of wild cat n puppy behavior and never lost their patience. Thanks are not enough to show my gratitude!!
