How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

If I could give zero stars I would. I have never left a negative review in my 35 years of living but this was such a horrible experience. My puppy got vaccinated today and all I heard was him screaming at the top of his lungs from the other room. When I asked what was going on because I was obviously worried the tech responded with “Train your dog he bit me” ( he is 4 months old). I asked the vet what was going on he stormed off and said I don’t have time to answer you. I paid almost $300 for this experience. Management needs to do better. Please train your employees to be empathetic and react to stressful situations in a professional manner. I left unsure if my puppy was harmed and when I asked what happened no explanation was given. I understand shots hurt puppies but I don’t understand why he was yelling at the top of his lungs for a long period of time. It just isn’t right. Get the owner involved when the dog is beginning difficult. Don’t just have 3 people hold him down and be rough. People shouldn’t pay for such unprofessional behavior.

Poor customer service and bad management. They are taking forever to approve a prescription request for Simparica Trio from Chewy. They first received my request on July 1st. It took Banfield 10 days to review the request. It was then denied because my dog needed to get his annual Heartworm Test. We were not notified and found out simply because the Chewy order was automatically cancelled and I called. I scheduled an appointment to get the test on July 11. During the appointment, I told the staff and doctor that a new prescription request was pending from Chewy, and asked to get approved promptly, given that I ran out of pills and my dog was supposed to take it on the 10th. They assured me they would do it by the end of the same day. They did not. I called twice on July 12. I also spoke with the manager who assured me they would do it by that day. They have not. This is blatantly ridiculous and disrespectful towards customers. Why was the prescription not approved right when my dog was seen by the doctor! I spent 50$ for the visit so that everything needed to get the prescription approved was settled. Yet, thr prescription request is still pending!

I love taking my dogs here. One of them is rather old and my other dog is about 3-4 years old (adopted). The staff here always treats them both like their own and for my pets, that’s priceless.

I am truly grateful for Banfield Pincrest. The staff and Doc were very kind, welcoming and just really pleasant. You all were so great to Charlie on such short notice and emergency status. This location was very accommodating due to the circumstances. I truly understand the appointment schedules. Tristan took my call and made me feel very comfortable and priority. He took the extra step to communicate if the doc can or cannot see Charlie. Even if they couldn’t see Charlie, it’s that customer service that keeps me taking my pet to you all. Thank You!

So I did my due diligence and called ahead and asked the person that answered how much a rabies shot cost. The girl asked for my information and pulled up my account. She then went to confirm the price and informed me that it was $30. So I booked the appointment. Now the appointment was during my job so my boyfriend went and took my dog for the appointment he was now informed that it was $125, A price that was not discussed during the phone conversation. I spoke with the clerk and I told her that I want them to pull up the phone recording to listen to what the representative told me which was incorrect information. They told me they are unable to despite the automated voice system said the call was recorded for training purposes. They then informed me that the reason of the price was because my dog didn’t have insurance. which I can understand but why is it that when I called and the woman pulled up my profile and saw I didn’t have insurance and didn’t inform me that the complete price would be doctors visit and rabies shot. It was like a bait and switch. So what I advise is when you call them to ask if there’s any additional cost, fees, etc if you ever confirm or ask anything over the phone. Don’t rely on the phone recordings because apparently they have no access to it.
