How to Save Money at Baseline Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Highly recommend this great group of animal lovers, just moved to the area and needed an emergency visit for my cat they got me in and took care of the problem. The Doctor called every day with an update and advise. After my baby was home they called to make sure everything was okay. Thank You to the great staff

BEWARE!!!!! It seems that this place has undergone some changes over the last 17 years and not for the better.....The staff makes you feel about a half inch tall and even the vet makes you feel like a bad pet owner. I have taken my Boxer here since he was a puppy and have had other pets I took to this office. Was told on Wednesday that they haven't seen him since 2014. That is odd since I paid for a complete checkup/exam a few years ago and was even referred by them to a different office 3 years ago for a procedure for my pet. My dog has never been vaccinated they say. That's odd too because the county shows where I filed the Rabies cert four years ago from their office. But in the interest of keeping the peace on Wednesday, I set the dog up for vaccinations when he was going in for a re-check the following Friday. Shortly after my arrival, the girl at the front desk asked me in a condescending tone in front of other customers if I was planning to get my dog vaccinated today. I said yes that is part of why I am here since it seems to be a controversy within their records. I stated that I have brought my dog here for 11 years and since I was told according to their records, I have refused to have him treated since 2014 I would pay for vaccinations again. The lady to my left stated to me that she had heard of others having the same issues. The receptionist then told me to stop talking as I was bad-mouthing the office in front of other clients. I stated that she was bad-mouthing me and that maybe the conversation about my pet owner responsibilities should have been held in a private area because she was the one who initiated the conversation in front of others. Oh well, I guess they have great record-keeping going on for their other clients. I was not one of them. I am sure they are happy to have me gone at this point since I do not meet their lofty standards. What a shame to now have to switch both dogs and my mother's dog to a new vet.

Special thanks to Courtney and thanks to the rest of the staff as well for helping me with my last minute pet certificate and endorsement submission to the USDA. This was SO last minute and Courtney went through the process with me on the phone for a very long time to ensure that the certificate was being submitted and completed. Thank you again for being so considerate about the sensitive timing on the matter and relieving the amount of stress I was under. God bless!

Very disappointed with this vet Ii called them get my cat prescription flea and tick medicine and when I went to pick it up all they had was a pill I was hesitant as my cat is very picky probably like most cats but since that’s the only prescription strength they have and they assured me that it’s got a scent to it that cats like and that I could also try crushing it up and putting it in some tuna so I did that after I put it in his kibble and he would not touch it I crushed it up put it on tuna and he would not eat it he walked away from it so now I just spent $20 on something that’s not helpful at all so I called the clinic and told them my situation they said well that’s too bad there’s nothing we can do once you open it very sad I could see if I had tried to do something like this before or not been a patient so yeah I am very disappointed and I have been bringing my cat here off and on for a couple years now so might be time to find another vet he stood there for a few minutes smelled the food and walked away and tuna is his favorite treat too
