How to Save Money at Healing Paws Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

After only one session with Dr. Jess, our tripod cat, Kekoa is feeling better than ever! Dr. Jess went above and beyond showing us that she truly cared about making our baby as comfortable as possible. We would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a safe and holistic approach to caring for their fur kids.

I wish I could give an infinite amount of stars. I would not have made it through Eleanor’s last couple of weeks with us if it wasn’t for Dr. Jessie and her amazing team. Eleanor was a senior rescue and had recently been diagnosed with IVDD. Surgery was not an option for us so we turned to Healing Paws for alternative therapies. Our case was made more complicated because Eleanor also was battling a stomach disease that no longer was responding to her meds. Needless to say when we showed up for Eleanor’s evaluation I was a wreck. Dr. Jessie rolled up her sleeves and dove right in and left no stone unturned. The kindness the team showed us and the support they gave to both myself and Eleanor was over and beyond anything I could have asked for. Dr. Jessie and Mia gave Eleanor the gift of pain relief through acupuncture, laser, and massage. You could just tell by how much she relaxed during and after the sessions with a goofy grin on her face. They treated Eleanor like their own. Sadly, Eleanor lost her battle with her stomach disease. Dr. Jessie and her team were there for us the whole time and afterwards. They truly do amazing things for our little ones and care deeply about their work. I highly recommend Healing Paws and if I ever need their services again I will not hesitate to call them.

WOW! I can't compliment Healing Paws & their staff enough! This past December we received the terrible news that my Kona girl was diagnosed with thyroid cancer that had metastasized to her liver. Her vet referred us to an oncology group which left us heartbroken & disappointed, leaving us with many unanswered questions and a grim diagnosis of 3 months to live. We were told with chemotherapy intervention, Kona would have a 6 month life span, at most. After weighing our options, chemotherapy seemed to be a selfish option that would only prolong Kona's life by a few months & her given her state at the time, her quality of life would be poor. Looking for another option, I found Healing Paws Center & made our consultation. They made a plan & let me just say my Kona girl is STILL ALIVE TODAY- 9 months post diagnosis!!! This team has worked effortlessly week after week adjusting to Kona's changes and concerns, being relentless in finding solutions to every problem. I think what amazes me most, they do not settle for negative symptoms that most vets say 'it is what it is'- Dr. Jessie is constantly researching and finding new solutions to help Kona have the best quality of life. She mixes the perfect knowledge of holistic & western medicine- which is how healthcare should be! Kona is more energetic now than she was 9 months ago!! Every single team member is so sweet & helpful, making this entire cancer experience a lot easier. I could go on all day with this review, talking about how I will be forever grateful to have found this place and these amazing humans. If you pet has any health issues seriously- MAKE THE CONSULTATION- you won't be disappointed! Thank you Healing Paws for being so sweet and progressive in Veterinary medicine!

Enthusiastic Direction

My little Maltese pup Harry was diagnosed with a collapsed trachea, and it was very upsetting and after doing research I knew I wanted to go the holistic route as the drugs the traditional vet's prescribe have scary side effects. I found the Healing Paws center and the first appointment was amazing. Little Harry who is normally terrified to go to the vet was on the ground playing within seconds of meeting Dr Jesse and Mia. I had been so upset and scared after the visit with my original vet but after meeting with Dr Jesse I feel like we can help little Harry and he can still have a good long life! We are looking forward to our upcoming acupuncture appointment. I highly recommend Healing Paws!

I can’t say enough wonderful things about the team at Healing Paws. Today was my third visit. My dog Oliver is seeing Dr. Danielle for Accupuncture & Ozone therapy to help him through his chemo treatments. From the first time we arrived, everyone made me feel so comfortable. Dr. Danielle was sitting in a mat on the floor which I thought was brilliant. Oliver immediately went up to sniff her and I could tell he was way more relaxed than at Vet where it’s all cold metal and sterile. She was on his level and could touch him, examine him and literally bond with him right away. She put together a plan, suggested natural supplements & herbs and even advised on his diet. Oliver got lots of treats and belly rubs and seems to really enjoy his visits. We also met Dawn on the first day, who was the one who called and fit us in for his first appointment and made sure to ask what treats Oliver would like; Turkey or peanut butter. And they had lots turkey there for him for all visits. I wish I knew the names of the other ladies who assisted Oliver but honestly everyone is wonderful & compassionate. Dr. Danielle and her team are angels who thankfully came into our lives to help all of us get through a difficult time. I am so grateful.
