How to Save Money at Bluewater Bay Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Cornbread told me to leave a review about his experience, I have translated the meows as such; Dear Vets Hoomans, While I didn't put up the biggest fuss, I hate going to you. HOWEVER, if I ever have to do it again, I'd let my Hoomans take me back here. The Vet Hoomans poked around, didn't even put a thermometer up my butt and let me get back to my kingdom in no time at all. I'll tolerate this medicine stuff in my ears for now because my ear invaders have been vanquished! Thank you Vet hoomans. -Sincerely, Cornbread *Note from the Momma Hooman: Cornbread had some ear pain and head shakes. Turns out he had earmites. After just a few days of his medication, his ears look almost 100% better. My appointment was at 9am, got in immediately to a room, our vet was in and talking to us by 9:15am and we were in the car and on our way home by 9:45am. Cornbread did great and having nice Vet staff helped! First time at a vet since moving to Florida but will happily be back for all of Cornbread's needs. 😸🖖🏻

My dog got a piece of nature stuck in his eye. He hurt so badly and it looked so bad. They saw him right away and keep checking his heading every few days. The vet took some of my dogs blood and made eye drop with it so he could heal faster. They saved his sight which makes me happy.

They are wonderful. The addition of Dr Yeager has been a plus for them. They have taken care of Mugsy since a pup in 2008. Thanks for your wonderful care of him.

Highly recommend!!! I took my 7 wk old puppy to the emergency vet Sunday, they gave her medication and fluids, then advised me to get her in to regular vet asap. After calling every vet in Defuniak, Crestview, some in Pace and Niceville they were able to get her in next day. She was in bad shape ended up staying with them for 3 days during the day. She is doing well and is on the mend now. The entire staff from front desk to back was amazing. Thank you so much to the entire team from Athena and me!

Hello, I just called this morning at 9:20am on June 3,2023. Spoke to the most rudest receptionist there. I was inquiring on getting my new four month old puppy that I received from a neighbor . She has never been vaccinated. I was trying to her in so I can do what need to be done for my puppy. Also to schedule her to get fixed so she doesn’t have any puppies in the future. Her respond was I don’t believe the owner didn’t give her shots. There required to have them. We’ll I explained to her that unfortunately she wasn’t. Mother had nine puppies from some stray dog. And she found homes to get the care they needed. Then she turned the table around and said that I was being rude to her and maybe this is not the place for my puppy to be seen. So I kindly told her that’s fine and I’ll make sure that everyone I know . Finds out how rude there receptionist are. This was not what I was expecting from a high recommendation of friends and family. That person should not be working with the public at all or answering phones . Has no customer service at all.
