How to Save Money at Collier Animal Referral + Emergency

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Saved our new kitten! We brought in our baby after she was diagnosed with pneumonia she developed difficulty breathing. The techs and vet were extremely attentive and explained and educated us about the plan and how they were going to treat her. She was completely oxygen dependent and lethargic. We did not think she was ever going to get to come home and we’re preparing ourselves for the call. The next morning we went to visit her and she was like a new kitten, off oxygen and looking much more alert. The staff helped us figure out our finances and even went through every item on the bill to make sure it was correct and went completely above and beyond. They even made sure to give her lots of cuddles and TLC when we weren’t there. Thank you to the front staff, techs and vets who were with us every step of the way until we brought our kitty home. Loki is like a brand new kitten and you all changed her life in the best way and we couldn’t be more grateful!

Wow! An unrivaled experience of care, competency, and compassion. (And that’s after walking out of a dreadfully cold and incompetent experience at another Naples emergency hospital). Collier Animal Referral + Emergency were so amazing and caring with our dog, Yogi, who just had 8 seizures. The doctors new exactly what to do, diagnosed the real underlying issues and promptly got into action to help us solve them. Now, thanks to them, Yogi is like a 2-year old dog and he is almost 10! He has no more seizures and is feeling amazing. Words fail to express the depth of our gratitude to the stellar doctors and vet techs at this outstanding Vet hospital. Only take your pets to this hospital if you want them protected, cared for with compassion, and given the right solutions. This is the “Rolls Royce” of 24hr animal hospitals.”

My dog bleeding to death on their front lawn because I couldn’t pay the $3500.00! This practice likes to blame others for their behavior. They are unethical in the extreme. Beware of this dangerous and heartless business! They would rather put your animal to sleep instead of helping her heal. They are 100% in it for the money only. Read my bill.

We cannot begin to express how grateful we are for Dr. Lopez and the ENTIRE staff at Collier Animal Referral + Emergency. Our precious Zoe was hospitalized for renal failure. This was very difficult because due to advanced heart disease stays in the hospital usually sends her into CHF. However, the staff here are genuinely compassionate and loving, and as a result, Zoe has been very relaxed and calm. More importantly, her kidney levels are improving and she is feeling better every day. We are very grateful for Dr. Lopez’s philosophy in understanding that medicine is more than drugs and the bottom line. Here you are treated like family and it has made a world of difference not only for our baby, but for us as well. Thank you, Dr. Lopez and staff for this uniquely special place in our community for our beloved family members.

We cannot say enough about Dr. Lopez and his incredible staff! The facility is welcoming, immaculately clean and everyone was kind and compassionate! Our little morkie Lumi was in great hands! They also have high end technology which many facilities don’t have! Open 24/7 which Collier County desperately needed. People need to understand that owning animals is costly and in unfortunate events where we seek emergency veterinary care, nothing is free. If you cannot afford potential medical bills to care for your animal it’s one thing, but a facility/staff this compassionate/caring should never be blamed if we seek their professional service. We took our morkie home with medication to rest. We’re so grateful and will most definitely be keeping Dr.Lopez and his facility as our main go-to emergency vet. Thank you C.A.R.E❤️
