How to Save Money at Loving Care Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Fargo loves his vet and the staff there too. They are so friendly and listen to your concerns. The vet is great, gives informative information and very nice. I trust them to take very good care of my boy! And when your dog likes them too.. you know you’ve got your forever vet care!

Loving Care Hospital in Largo FL is so nice. My dog needed to be seen. They said fine. The minute I walked in I was greeted. They put me and my dog in a room. Immediately a tech came in to take information. She then gave it to the Dr. Dr. Richard's came in smiling. My initial thought was kindness walking thru the door. He checked out Brinkley completely. He made sure he was out of pain. I cannot say enough goods things about this Vets office. I'm so happy I selected to go there. Thank you.

Took my dog in last Wednesday as I was new to the area. She was in pretty bad shape and was diagnosed with an auto immune disease and given steroids on Friday. By Tuesday I had called back and spoke with the Dr letting him know she was still losing weight, not eating and doing worse. He told me we're not working miracles here and that she needed 7-11 days for them to work. I took his word for it and gave the drugs one more day. Called Wednesday evening, no answer. Called 3 times Thursday before noon and no answer. I took her to another vet where her levels had dropped below 10%, they were 18% when tested the previous Wednesday. She needed an emergency transfusion and there was no blood in the area including tampa or pasco areas. Thank goodness I have another dog who could donate and I did not wait until my follow up appointment with these guys on Saturday because she more than likely wouldn't have made it. The emergency services cost almost $4,000 and when I asked for a partial refund on the $1,000 I spent at this office I was told absolutely not! Figured as much but thought it was worth the ask considering the mistreatment and lack of care.

Will never take my dog back here. I took my puppy here to get spayed and brought him back a couple months later for his annual shots. He was absolutely fine with the girl techs and when the male vet walked in he started growling and snarling at him. We have never seen this behavior from him and he’s around males daily. We didn’t think much of it and brought him back on a sedative. Same thing, girl vets came in he was fine and as soon as the vet came in he was barking and being defensive again. I’m not sure what they did with him but he remembers something about him he does not like. He has never acted like this anywhere else and he’s gotten shots at 2 other places.

This veterinarian killed my boxer. He was treating my boxer for three months with all kinds of signs showing that she had cancer. After telling me to keep her on steroids for another two months after being on them for one month previous I finally said no, and took my dog to specialist. Which within a week and a half diagnosed her with intestinal melanoma. They could not believe that my previous veterinarian had not seen and diagnosed with all the signs that my dog had. She died three weeks later. I would never ever take any animal to this vet.
