How to Save Money at Mayfair Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My daughter and I brought Ace, her 8 year old Pit bull to Mayfair after he was limping for 2 days. The staff was incredible especially Tommy the tech, Dr. Balogh and the radiology technician Julian. We were seen ahead of our appointment time, and great time and care was taken to ensure our dog was well taken care of. They were patient with Ace and showed nothing but compassion and kindness. They were upfront about the prices, appointments were easy and quick to schedule, and they kept us informed through every step on what to expect. I highly recommend this pet clinic for your furry friends.

I lost my second dog and under the circumstances can’t be more satisfied with the way Mayfair handled the moment. A candle was burning on the counter so the other owners will know there was a loved one very ill so they can understand the waiting time was a bit longer. Me a lady at the lobby that when we got out gave us the condolences. Our loved Maxi was taken care with love and dignity. Can’t be more satisfied with the clinic. They are very lovely with all. Thank you

I DONT KNOW WHO KEEPS DELETING MY POST BUT HERE IT GOES AGAIN. KEEP IN MIND THAT AS OF TODAY 8/5 NO ONE HAS RETURNED MY CALL OR RESPONDED TO MY EMAIL SENT. This is not the first time it happened on 7/6 I left a voicemail and no one called me back. I had to continue calling until I got someone on the phone. The doctor saw my cat and specifically said if the cat continues to limp by Friday 7/14 call to set an appointment for him to see the cat on Friday. Well the cat is still limping I started calling since 8:00am and all I get is voicemail for extension 101. At 11:19 I left a voicemail and at 2:00 I left another voicemail. No one calls back. I am hoping that my cat doesn’t die by the time I go see Doctor Balogh on 7/26 @ 12:00. I will complain directly to him. My cat had fever and his White blood cell count is high. Meantime the girls sitting in the back room at the front desk were talking to each other showing each other things on their cell phone. Really sad on how business is run at this location. I wish I can add a video. Dr Balogh will remember my cat.

At first glance, you see an overall rating of 3 stars. Can't be bad, right? Hopefully, you are a scrupulous pet owner who reads further into the reviews to avoid wasting their time. My dog needs a physical and her rabies vaccine I had an appointment scheduled for 11:00 on a Saturday that I was counting on. It is currently 12:05pm as I am writing this review in the waiting room, and my dog still hasn't been seen by the vet. I was never provided with any updates on the delays we would be experiencing until it was too late. The only thing I was keep listening is there is one doctor I requested to speak with the MANAGER and asked why there is one doctor in a busy day he couldn’t explain much I was asking him to hire more doctors and this was not only me but other people too!! Only because I had the courage to ask for the manager who said I was yelling, really?? Oh, and the worst he said he would call the COPS on me I told him I was not new here, I had been coming for years and that way my pet and I had been treated awfully but this manager you don’t know how to run the business. It's incredibly frustrating and disrespectful to people's time and their pet's health needs. Go to another business that understands how to treat their customers.
