How to Save Money at San Marco Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr Raj and staff were extremely efficient, caring and gentle with my Fur Babies: Gigi LaPew (12-yr old chihuahua) and Lil Boy (7yr old rat terrier). I highly recommend this Animal Hospital to anyone looking for a truly caring and knowledgeable Team.

Honestly not a fan for multiple reason. The vet, Dr. Gopala Raju Dantuluri, has an abrasive manner. Not loving at all towards our pup Silvy, didn’t attempt to make her comfortable or anything. This place is highly cost driven, and while I respect it’s a business it’s also our baby’s care. (I should also say that they did work with me and utilize matching chewy prescription costs, and have the 1 time free first visit fee at checkout), but also had the audacity to tell me he removed other charges when I asked about costs, even though the charges were not on the original plan I was given. At minimum, learning her name and caring about her is a must. We won’t go back. They also charge for suture removal, $50 for less than 10 minutes of being there. He didn’t even come into the room, he couldn’t even make the time. He stood IN THE DOORWAY, and gave us a few moments and everything was so rushed. I’ve never paid for suture removal at any vet. Ever. I also didn’t know the costs until I was a few minutes out because I called and asked. I had a feeling they would. It’s just the vibe. If the care was above and beyond, I would get some of the costs. But the suture removal is ridiculous. I personally wouldn’t go back to this place, I don’t recommend it, and from the reviews I’ve seen on yelp, I shouldn’t have. My girl needed stitches ASAP and they were the only Ones who could see her same day. I feel like I understand why now. Oh and I doubt he wants to retain patients or even cares too, since he didn’t even bother to speak to my partner who was there this time and not last time. Shoot I bet he wouldn’t know us at all. So with all that. I gave it 2 stars. I gave it those 2 starts only because the stitches were applied well, though I am concerned about her after care, the wound is super red and raw looking. None of my other pups who’ve had stitches had wounds like this. I could barely tell they had stitches. With the pic below you can see. He said it’s fine, but not sure I trust much at this point. I’ll wait it out a bit and go somewhere else if needed. Ps I did see that Dr Sri might be amazing from the reviews so if you try this place maybe request him if he’s still there. And def use the info here to get some cost assistance. UPDATE!!!!! I have received a refund for the $50 charge. I do appreciate the refund and the change they have stated they made to policy / charges so that future clients and their fur babies can be taken care of. Thank you. I have added a 3rd star to do this reason.

In April 09 2023, it was a raining Sunday of Easter Day. We were searching to find one place to help me with my beloved baby that was leaving me by cancer. We found the attention, respect and the help we were needing at the most difficult time for me and my little girl in San Marcos Animal Hospital. The staff and the Doctor was very professional and respectful with the moment we were going through. Thank you San Marco Animal Hospital for opening the doors and heart for help us.

San Marco doctors and staff are the absolute best in Jacksonville. As a breeder I want the absolute best care for our adult dogs and puppies. They have went above and beyond working with us on last minute appointments, and being available for anything that might come up that needs to be treated immediately. One of the perks is they’re open 7 days a week so if you need a weekend appointment, they always try to get us in as quickly as possible. Thank you so much everyone up there at San Marco! Y’all have truly made what we do so much easier and hassle free. I recommend to all of our customers to continue treating your pups that you get from us at San Marco! God bless each and every one of you ❤️

Worth the drive!!! San Marco Animal Hospital Staff is compassionate and well educated. They got us in and out quickly, and most of our time in the office was actually spent with the veterinarian. The receptionist was very empathetic with our concerns and helped make our appointment process as smooth as possible. Halfway through the appointment, my cat was purring in the technicians hands. 5 stars directly from the patient, who's energy levels are back to normal. We are excited to continue working with the care team here, and will be back soon for routine shots and follow-up.
