How to Save Money at Veterinary Trauma Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was out of town when my senior dog, Lela, suddenly started having intestinal issues. Not too be too descriptive, but she had blood coming out from all ends. With her age, we thought for sure we would be saying goodbye to her. We left her in Dr. Stone’s care overnight so he could run tests and provide her with much needed fluids. She had a full recovery and he recommended to feed her a dietary probiotic following this event. I can honestly say that Dr. Stone saved her life. Lela went on to live another 2 years until we had to say goodbye. I’m forever grateful to Dr. Stone for his wonderful love and care towards my girl❤️

Dr Stone and his team have taken such excellent care of my family over the years that they have become part of our family. They have grieved with us during our losses and helped contribute to the health and happiness of all our fur babies. From ear infections that never seemed to go away to helping us make the best decisions with our senior pets. I am forever grateful for finding Dr Stone.

Horrible treatment!!! Avoid this place at all cost. Can't say it enough. Absolute nightmare. Dr. Stone will say anything to convince you to leave your pet with him. Then he will tell you things don't look good but when you request to come get your pet he will change his story and tell you he has a plan. He will not allow you to visit or comfort your pet. He said my dog was on a feeding tube and ivs.( plural ) and it was to much of a hassel to unhook them. I was there wanting to see him. His nurse took a photo for me, there was NO feeding tube or ivs. Next morning my dog was dead. Then when I'm there again Dr. Stone says, oh I was so optimistic he was going outside and walking around and doing just fine. Are you not a vet?! How many times is Dr. Stone going to change his story? I totally believe it was about money not the health, or life of our pet. No compassion. Pic of my dog after I'm there and I was refused to see him but nurse took a picture. I don't see multiple IVs and a feeding tube thats too much of a hassle to unhook! Wasn't the first time Dr. Stone lied to me. I know my dog and what that look is in his eyes. He's feeling extremely beaten down, scared, depressed and probably in a lot of pain because he wasn't even given his pain medication after major surgery!!!! Disgusting treatment!! I also brought a shirt that smelled like me and he refused to give it to him. Dr Stone said, dogs are not psychosomatic. Dr Stone is uncompassionate! I question his mental stability the way he slams doors, raises his voice and contradicts himself. The way he treated me and my pet is completely unacceptable.

Veterinary Trauma Center has been a blessing to our family. Dr Stone is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. Our pets are all healthy and happy with their care. He has brought some of our pets through some very traumatic situations and showed so much thoughtfulness and care when we had to say goodbye to one of our fur children. He is informative and honest, even with things we are not ready to hear. He puts his patients first and gives them the best possible chance. His staff is super sweet and helpful every time. They too go above and beyond every time.

What an awful experience!!! I believe Dr Stone's treatment choices directly led to the death of our pet. I feel as if his choices for treatment weren't consistent with current veterinarian practices. Leaving our pet in his hands was a fatal mistake. His customer service skills were atrocious. He lacked compassion altogether and made inappropriate comments to my wife bordering on the verge of sexual harassment. If you love your pet do not take it here!!!
