How to Save Money at Family Pet Medical Center Veterinarian : Wellness, Dentistry, Surgery, Emergency
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I had an after hours emergency with my dog Bailey and being new to the area I was so relieved to find Family Pet Medical Center. From the initial phone call to my arrival I was very impressed with Ben’s genuine concern, professionalism and friendliness. He helped us right away and truly cared about my dog’s needs, him and Dee made us feel right at home. It was such a pleasant surprise to be greeted with such great care and hospitality that has been harder and harder to find these days. I would be more than happy to recommend this facility to others in need as I will certainly be back myself again!

I usually do not write many reviews, however my experience was exceptional at the Family Pet Emergency Center and that is why I wanted to write this. From the moment I brought in my sick dog, they immediately took my dog Bandit off my hands and started to evaluate him pretty quickly. The staff was so terrific, and you can absolutely tell that the entire staff are animal/pet lovers! They were very accommodating, kind and compassionate. My dogs got into something toxic, which we did not know what it was, and also got quite a bit of sand in their bodies, from walking on the beach, and the situation seemed very serious. My husband and I were very upset and stressed, however the staff made us feel more at ease because they continuously keep us up to speed on our pups progress. Ben at the front desk was kind enough to give me his personal phone number in case I wanted to check on the dogs throughout the night. He also took and sent me pictures of my babies as well! I was grateful for the pictures, kind staff, and routine updates! Apparently, this clinic has been around for 25 years off of Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale Beach, and I cannot believe I never knew it was there! They also provide regular vet services during the day as well. In the 33 years I have lived down here, I have never felt so reassured that my fur babies were in excellent care! I highly recommend this place for all of your pets needs! Thank you to Dr Mike, and Dr. Waller, and all of their wonderful staff for saving Bandit and Valentina!

The staff here was excellent! I brought my dog in for an emergency late in the night. The man I talked to on the phone was ready to grab her from me as soon as we got there so she was able to be taken back as quick as possible. The vet tech Dee, whom spent most of the night with me, was absolutely amazing! She kept me up to date, calmed my nerves, and even went out of her way to make me a coffee as all the tests and X-rays were being processed. They did everything possible to get to the bottom of my dogs issue and provided recommendations for food and care. I couldn’t of asked for a better experience and my pup is doing so much better.

Highly recommend! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff who not only seem to deeply care about the pets but their people too! They are also very thoughtful about which treatment is absolutely necessary at 1 AM.

The best and most trustworthy vet care! I never write reviews but I had to for these heroes! Not only did they take excellent care of our baby, Stella, but Ben, who works at the front, is the most honest person on the planet. I left my Daytona in one of the rooms and he called me immediately to return it! 10/10!!
