How to Save Money at Sandy Paws Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

For those of you making claims that any positive reviews are fake- shame on you! Neither of you ever even stepped foot in that hospital and why you would feel the need to attack good, hard working people is beyond me. I worked for Dr. Kim. I know first hand how dedicated and devoted she is to her patients. She is up all hours of the night going over cases and trying to ensure that every patient she sees has received the absolute best possible care. I have never worked with another doctor that is as devoted and loyal to her patients/clients. She is a phenomenal doctor with a brilliant mind. Not only does she have incredible bedside manner, but this is a person who volunteers her free time to Catholic Charities in order to provide veterinary care for the homeless. She ensures that their pets, their best friends in most cases and often all they have left in the world, can never be taken away from them just because they are unvaccinated. As for her team, they are incredible! Jenn was attacked in one of these reviews by a person who never even met her. She has been working in this field for over 20 years. She is as skilled as she is kind- how dare you sir. And to the lady who called about a neuter estimate- no one laughed at you! Those calls are recorded btw. And you hung up before anyone had a chance to explain anything to you like that neuter estimates are never given out over the phone because there are too many variables involved- how old is your pet, how big, does he have 2 testicles… if both testicles have not dropped, that makes for a much more complicated surgery. An exam is required in order to determine the costs involved. Also, price shopping for your pet’s surgery is just absolutely shameful anyway. You should be looking for the best quality care for your fur baby and not the cheapest. I’d give both of you zero stars if I could rate you as human beings. You both should be ashamed of yourselves. You have no idea what your negative reviews can do to a small, private business. To all others reading this- you will not find a better hospital, doctor, and team. Sandy Paws provides exceptional, personalized, veterinary care. My two boys are my babies, I do not care what anyone says, I love them like they are my children… and there is no place else I would trust like Sandy Paws 🐾 💕

I have a 13 year old Maltese who had ongoing health issues for 2 years. We've been to multiple vets, specialists, including a neurologist and 3 different ERs over the course of this period with no answer as to what was going on with our little guy. After looking for yet another vet, we came across Dr. Kim Greene. Dr Greene was able to get to the root of his issues early on and our little guy has been healthy and happy ever since he has been in her care!! Dr. Greene is extremely knowledgeable, responsive and always easy to get a hold of. To top it all off she and her staff are all wonderfully friendly. We truly are thankful we found such a wonderful vet for our babies.

Dr.Jill gave Cooper (our 11 year old German Shepherd) a very comprehensive exam, had a wonderful bedside manner, spent an hour with us which was awesome and provided some very important reading materials. The office staff was also very welcoming and helpful which is also a huge plus!!! We felt very informed and look forward to a continued relationship when we are at home in Florida!!! 😎❤️🐾
