How to Save Money at Masters Greg DVM

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Greg Masters is truly an awesome veterinarian and loves animals. Highly Recommended! We had our friends visit us on a Saturday afternoon. Just as they arrived the dog decided to jump out of the truck with pure excitement. Fiona broke a nail back from her outer toe and the inner bone was hanging out. We called Dr Masters and they had just closed up. We told him the situation. He had us rush over immediately. He stayed late to get her fixed up and comfortable and back to playing. Truly loves animals and treats them as if they had been his own. Highly recommended!

Dr. Masters has been my pets' veterinarian for approximately 27 or 28 years and it is hard to find enough superlatives to accurately describe the excellent level of care he provides. He used to be (many years ago) in St. Pete, and he is so excellent that, when he started his own practice in Dunedin years and years ago, I followed him there and continue to drive the two hours round trip to take my precious cargo/furkids to him. Over the years, his practice (Main Street Animal Hospital, in Dunedin, FL) has grown and he now has another vet there with him. It can take a bit longer to get an appointment or call with Dr. Masters now, but it's 100% worth the wait as, once you do, you get the same collaborative, caring, thorough, knowledgeable, skilled and superlative doctor I and my pets have consistently experienced over many years. I cannot (nor do I want to) imagine going to any other vet, tempting as the thought of not driving an hour each way to see him is. The drive is absolutely worth it, as he is the best vet, and the vet techs and entire staff at Main Street are all excellent, and go above and beyond in every way. Your furkids are in the most caring, skilled, experienced and kind hands at Main Street Animal Hospital. From infancy to the most respectful, loving end-of-life care, Dr. Masters and the whole team there are the ones I trust and profoundly appreciate with my beloved pets.

We've started wintering in Dunedin (where I grew up) traveling from Santa Fe, NM with our 3 Aussies and 1 cat. We made appointments for all ahead of time and were so happy to arrive and meet Dr. Masters and his staff. Everyone there is highly knowledgeable and CARES! We were totally impressed! Between him and the vet techs, issues that had gone on with our animals for years with previous vets, were finally properly diagnosed and solved.

Dr. Masters and his staff have to be the best veterinary service in the greater Tampa area! The entire staff is so friendly and caring. And he is a knowledgable, fantastic vet. He takes time with each pet and really listens and cares. We had an older toy poodle who was having serious medical issues. Dr. Masters investigated the causes and sent us to a terrific eye specialist when it was indicated. Once it became apparent that nothing more could be done to help our little dog, Dr. Master was so kind and supportive. I would trust any pet with Dr. Masters and his staff.

I can't say enough good things about this fabulous practice. Dr. Masters is such a kind and knowledgeable veterinarian and everyone who works in the practice has such a way with animals and really excels at what they do. We have been going to to Dr Masters for all of our dog care needs since 2008.
