How to Save Money at Mayfair Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They have been my vet for over 30 years! I have brought all our different animals to them Dr Jim and now Dr Molly are amazing. They genuinely care about their patients and customers. They are not a large corporation worried about turning out volume Just quality care. Their staff is amazing as well. Would highly recommend them and have recommended them. Nice job Dr. Grubs!!!

This morning I'm feeling ever so grateful for Mayfair Animal Hospital. Dr Grubb has been my veterinarian for over 20 years, and has always been the most amazing doctor to my animals! But I've never really had an emergency before, and that's when things get really real. I left my dog unattended with a large ham bone, and he ate it while I changed the sheets. I was horrified, scared, and terrified that my dog might die. I called Dr Grubb's office, I spoke with the veterinary assistant and Dr Grubb himself. He calmed me down considerably and gave me step-by-step instructions what to do next. Then my dog started vomiting bone fragments, and Dr Grubb got me in first thing this morning for an x-ray. My pup is going to be completely fine, thank God and thanks to Dr. Grubb! My dog is my baby, and means the world to me. The way Dr. Grubb was able to handle the situation, and calm me at the same time is absolutely invaluable! If you're looking for an amazing vet, look no further! Doctors Grubb (Jim and his daughter, Molly) will take extraordinary care of your animals without breaking the bank!

Dr. Grubb and his daughter Molly Grubb are the best Veterinarians ever! The staff is caring and I always consider myself so lucky to have such a wonderful Vet I can trust with my babies. I can't say enough about this Animal Hospital. I met Dr. James Grubb 40 years ago and can honestly say he has never once disappointed me, and you can bet he has taken care of a lot of our dogs in 40 years!

I have 2 Greater Swiss Men Dogs, and I was told Dr Grubb was very familiar with the breed. I am in south florida and the breed is very rare here, but GSMD have particular health issues so it's important to find a vet familiar with their issues. So, when I called I spoke with receptionist Nancy on the phone who informed me "they are not accepting any new patients" and I asked if she can ask Dr Grubb to recommend someone else, and she told me another vet. I called the other vet, no answer, so I called Dr Grubb back and spoke to receptionist Nancy again who was extremely NOT helpful and very rude. I asked her if I can be on a waiting list and she said no, and then I asked so are you never accepting new patients? she said "I didn't say never, but not now and there's no time frame" in a very nasty tone. Then I asked again if she can please make a note for Dr Grubb if he has any recommendations for another vet that is familiar with this breed, and in a very nasty tone she said she cannot do that, they dont give recommendations. She was unwilling to help, and I was extremely shocked because I had heard amazing things about this office... Now, Dr Grubb may be fantastic but it is sad that the receptionist answering the phone give a horrible impression for the business as a whole. I have never encountered someone in the healthcare field so unwilling to help, so rude and literally say no to everything I suggest (even simple questions!).

Dr Grubb has been our family vet since I was too young to form memories. Six dogs and 30 years later I am very pleased that his daughter has taken the torch. Unfortunately for most people this is irrelevant as this is a closed practice. I dont believe they will see you unless you've been there before but they will refer you to someone local.
