How to Save Money at St. Charles Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had to make a decision to send Hannah to Rainbow heaven. Everyone was so nice and compassionate and understanding . She would be doing really good one day laying eggs and clucking and walking everywhere(but did not want to go back outside) lol. To this time just would not eat on her own. Long story. 6 months she was a roller coaster but they made it better. Thank you so much for the card. Very nice touch

I've never been to this hospital, but my first impression from when I walked in the door was very welcoming. On November 19th I took my Sweet Lexi in to be looked at due to my concern for her. Each person I came in contact with was very concerned about the issues my Lexi was going through. The Vet was very honest, which was very appreciated, and with a broken heart I had to lay my Sweet Lexi Lou down to cross the rainbow bridge.. during this whole process the staff here were very comforting and compassionate of the situation I was going through. I appreciate every one here, for their compassion and love they showed to not only me, but from what I observed from others coming in with the pets. My Lexi is no longer in pain.

On March 8th at 1 am my 12y r old Yorkipoo, Jacob contracted a laceration to his eyelid. The closest 24 hr Emergency Vet Hospital had an 8 hour wait. I was referred to St. Charles Veterinary Hospital where I met Dr. Walker Roberts. Dr. Roberts was compassionate, friendly, and fantastic. She performed surgery and I want her to be my Vet!!!!k I heard she loves the ED but I wish she would take care of my Yorkipoo. Dr. Roberts found out that he had an enlarged heart. Now, I can start him on meds so that my pooch can have a better quality of life. This means the world to me. I I am actually going to follow up treatment with the clinic because she was such a great ambassador. Thank you Dr. Roberts for your compassion understanding taking excellent care of Jacob. Many blessings, Angie & Jacob the Yorkipoo.

Last week I had to rush my dog in. I was a mess but they were so patient with me. The way they handled me and my dog meant so much to me. They were kind, understanding and most of all they were not judgmental. They were honest when I needed them to be. Unfortunately it was not the outcome I was hoping for. They were so compassionate and I felt like they truly cared. My heart hurts every day for Eevie but I am thankful for the way she was treated. That’s one thing I watch for when taking my babies to the vet.

Dr May is the sweetest. We lost or former little hedgehog and everyone was soo kind (especially to my very sad 11 year old daughter who fought for her little hedgehog). Recently we went back with our two new little hedgehogs and they were given so much love by the all the staff. Everyone is the sweetest from the techs to front end staff and the vets. Recommend completely.
