How to Save Money at Specialists in Companion Animal Neurology (SCAN) - Clearwater
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

When I brought our 6.5 lb yorkie in to see Dr. Lind, she was brutally honest with me. My little Penny didn't have a great chance of walking again, since her spinal chord had some really harsh damage. Since I live 2 hours away, I gave her the go to do the surgery and left to go get my wife at home. The next day we saw our pup at the recovery hospital (VEG - Clearwater - they were amazing also), she looked completely worn out but pepped up for us. It's been about 5 weeks since the surgery, and she has feeling in her rear legs and is able to walk and even run. It's not very graceful, but it's something. I cannot express how grateful my wife and I are for the wonderful work Dr. Lind and the staff at SCAN and done. We are now finishing up with the Naples office (only an hour away) and she's doing great. If I could give more stars I would. Thank you again.

Dr. Lind and the wonderful staff at SCAN Clearwater treated our little guy for a herniated disk in his neck. They were incredibly kind and patient with us very nervous pet parents, kept us well informed during the entire process (and even sent pictures after hours) so we knew our baby was in good hands. Dr. Lind explained everything to us ahead of each procedure; answered our multitude of questions thoroughly; and was extremely knowledgeable which put us at ease. Strongly recommend Dr. Lind and the great team at SCAN Clearwater.

SCAN has been absolutely wonderful! From agreeing to see our dog Colby on a Friday afternoon, to doing emergency surgery till 8pm the same night, and constantly updating us on how he is doing. We could not have asked for a better team to take care of our baby. All of our questions & more were answered and we felt at ease. Colby is doing amazing and it is all due to the wonderful team at SCAN. Colby went from being partially paralyzed on Friday to up & walking less than 48 hours post surgery. The team is amazing & big shout out to Christina & Dr. Cook. Everyone was super friendly & professional but also loving to our baby. Wouldn't change a thing!

There will never be enough positive things I could say about SCAN. My beautiful girl Cozza was struggling to walk on her front right leg, but quickly deteriorated into not bearing weight on both front legs. We were referred to SCAN through our primary vet for further evaluation. We came in on an emergency basis and were fit into the schedule that day for an MRI. Dr. Lind was extremely attentive to our needs, explained every potential option, and was so comforting. Sean at the front desk & Brenden the vet tech were absolutely amazing as well, both were very informative and kind to us. The staff all consistently offered any assistance and made sure my dog was as comfortable as possible with pillows, blankets, and medicine. They even gave her an iPad to watch tv overnight. Unfortunately the MRI scans shocked us all, showing a soft tissue mass too large and ingrained to treat. We made the decision to let our sweet girl go and end her suffering. The staff at SCAN go above and beyond with their compassion and dedication to their patients. I could not recommend their services enough. I felt that my baby’s life was in the best possible hands to the very end. Thank you for making one of the hardest choices of my life a little bit easier.

Dr. Lind and her support team are amazing! Our Little Bit received excellent attention from everyone involved in her care plan. Dr. Lind did not rush into surgery, instead opting for a conservative approach. Unfortunately, despite everyone’s efforts, Little Bit required surgery. We are pleased to share that she is doing fantastic, and the surgery was successful in restoring her mobility. Since every pet is unique, so are the outcomes. This is something that needs to be considered before going into surgery. We knew upfront that surgery may not restore Little Bit’s ability to walk. Thankfully, it did, but we were prepared to provide the long-term care she needed if it did not. Dr. Lind and everyone at SCAN went above and beyond to keep us informed about Little Bit’s care and recovery. Dr. Lind and her staff answered our questions, day or night, and continue to do so months later if we call. We received updated pictures of our Little Bit daily, and she was smothered by an abundance of hugs and cuddles during her stay at SCAN. Although surgery of any kind can be unsettling, we cannot imagine entrusting our Little Bit’s health to anyone other than Dr. Lind and her staff. Thank you does not begin to express our gratitude for the kindness and compassion everyone demonstrated while caring for our Little Bit. Dr. Lind and the supporting staff are truly exceptional!
